Marlowe (oblique) has gone 2-for-7 with two doubles, a steal, three walks and two strikeouts in two games since coming off the injured list at Triple-A Tacoma. He suffered an oblique strain March 10, which cut his time in spring training short and delayed his start to the season at Triple-A. Marlowe turns 26 in June, so he is on the older side for a legitimate prospect, but he has above-average power and above-average speed and could get a look in the majors this season if any of Seattle's top three or four big-league outfielders suffers an injury.... Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Getting closer to playing in games
Marlowe (oblique) is getting closer to playing in games, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Marlowe has not been able to play this season while recovering from a right oblique strain suffered early in the Cactus League. The 25-year-old hit 23 homers while swiping 42 bases across 133 games between Triple-A Tacoma and Double-A Arkansas in 2022. Marlowe stands a good chance of making his MLB debut for the Mariners at some point before the 2023 season concludes.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Opens season on IL
Triple-A Tacoma placed Marlowe (oblique) on its 7-day injured list Friday. Marlowe will miss at least the first week of the minor-league season while he continues to recover from the right oblique strain he suffered in early March. The 25-year-old outfielder slashed .287/.377/.487 with 23 home runs and 42 stolen bases across 133 games between Tacoma and Double-A Arkansas in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Optioned to Triple-A
Marlowe (oblique) was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. Marlowe is on Seattle's 40-man roster but entered spring a long shot at best to claim an Opening Day roster spot. His mild right oblique strain has officially taken him out of contention. In 133 games across the two highest levels of the minors last season, Marlowe hit .289 with 23 home runs and 42 stolen bases, though just 13 of those games came at the Triple-A level.... See More ... Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Undergoing MRI on oblique
Marlowe will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of the oblique injury which forced him from Thursday's game, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Marlowe is in the running for an Opening Day roster spot, but even a mild oblique strain would surely rule him out. The 25-year-old posted an .868 OPS with 23 homers and 42 steals over 133 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season but struck out at a 27.0 percent clip.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Exits with oblique injury
Marlowe departed Thursday's exhibition game versus Team Canada with mild oblique soreness, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Marlowe struck out in his lone plate appearance before exiting. The 25-year-old has had a strong spring and has been talked up as a potential darkhorse to crack the Opening Day roster, so this is unfortunate timing. More should be known about Marlowe's status in the coming days.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Cade Marlowe: More of a factor in OF mix?
Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said Wednesday that Marlowe could suddenly be more prominent in the team's outfield mix, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. This comes on the heels of the news that Taylor Trammell will be sidelined throughout all of spring training -- and likely part of April -- because of a fractured hamate bone in his right hand. Marlowe now has more of a path to an Opening Day roster spot, though Seattle might ultimately prefer that he plays regularly at Triple-A Tacoma rather than carrying him as a reserve outfielder. The 25-year-old showcased tremendous fantasy potential last summer in the minors, slashing .287/.377/.487 with 23 home runs and 42 stolen bases in 133 games between Double-A and Triple-A. He certainly belongs on watch lists no matter how this shakes out.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Added to 40-man roster
Marlowe was added to Seattle's 40-man roster Tuesday. The pressure will be on Marlowe to produce next season, as he turns 26 in June and has only played 14 games at Triple-A and zero games in the majors. He hit .289/.379/.489 with a 27 percent strikeout rate in 578 plate appearances at Double-A and Triple-A. Marlowe has decent speed and tallied 23 home runs and 42 steals on the year.... See More ...
