  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Struggles with long ball

Burke didn't factor in the decision in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Astros on Wednesday. He struck out eight, giving up three runs on four hits and no walks over four innings.

Burke looked dominant at times with 14 whiffs on 72 pitches while punching out half of the batters he faced, but three solo homers prevented him from working deeper into the contest. The eight strikeouts tied a season high, and it was the seventh time in 33 appearances this year that he issued no free passes. With the White Sox advancing past the Astros, Burke could next take the mound as early as Game 2 of the ALDS against the Guardians on Monday.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Efficient start in win

Burke (11-7) earned the win after allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 5.1 innings against the Rockies on Friday. He struck out seven.

Burke recorded his third consecutive win and his fourth victory in his last five starts Friday against Colorado. The right-hander gave up only one mistake, allowing a solo shot by TJ Rumfield in the second inning. Assuming this is his last appearance of the season, the 26-year-old posted a 3.34 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 185:62 K:BB in 172.1 innings.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Six strong innings in win No. 10

Burke (10-7) notched the win Saturday against Detroit, striking out five while allowing one run on five hits and three walks in six innings.

The Tigers scratched a run across in the fifth inning, but that was all they would muster in the scoring department for the afternoon. Burke has now worked at least five innings while giving up fewer than two runs in three of his last four outings in September, though he did surrender a staggering seven runs in the other appearance. He'll bring a 3.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 178:61 K:BB over 167 innings into his next scheduled start against the lowly Rockies, which figures to be his final showing of the regular season.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Flourishes as bulk reliever in win

Burke (9-7) earned the win Monday against Cleveland, striking out four while allowing an unearned run on four hits and two walks in five innings of relief.

Working behind opener Sean Newcomb on Monday, Burke kept the Guardians scoreless until permitting an unearned run in the sixth inning. It was a resounding bounce-back effort after the right-hander was shelled for seven runs his last time out versus Pittsburgh. He'll bring a respectable 3.47 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 173:58 K:BB over 161 innings into his next scheduled outing against the Tigers.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Set to work behind opener

Burke is expected to pitch in bulk relief behind opener Sean Newcomb in Monday's game against the Guardians, James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Over his last three starts, Burke has allowed nine runs while issuing 14 walks in just 10 innings, so the White Sox will deploy the right-hander behind a lefty opener for his upcoming turn through the rotation with the hope of generating better results. Burke has previously made four appearances out of the bullpen this season, delivering a stellar 1.80 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 26:6 K:BB in 25 innings.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Shelled for seven runs

Burke (8-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Pirates after allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over 1.1 innings.

Burke endured the shortest start of his career as Pittsburgh overwhelmed him immediately. The first seven Pirates reached safely, with six hits and a walk producing five runs before Burke recorded an out. He returned for the second but exited after loading the bases with one out. The seven runs and eight hits allowed were both career highs, raising his ERA to 3.58. His next start lines up for this weekend against the Cardinals.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Sunday's start moved to Tuesday

Burke's scheduled start against the Twins on Sunday has been moved to Tuesday's series opener against the Pirates, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

The White Sox have yet to name a starter for Sunday's series finale after Burke's scheduled outing was pushed back by a couple of days. Across nine starts since the All-Star break, Burke has a 2-2 record with a 2.76 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 52:21 K:BB over 49 innings.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Bounces back, earns win Tuesday

Burke (8-6) earned the win Tuesday against the Astros after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. He allowed one hit and walked four.

Burke bounced back nicely after issuing a career-high eight walks over three-plus innings in his previous start. He walked the first two batters Tuesday but escaped the opening frame and didn't surrender his first hit until Taylor Trammell doubled in the fifth. This was Burke's fifth scoreless outing of the season, and he's been pitching well -- this outing lowered his ERA to 3.20, and he owns a strong 2.76 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP in nine starts since the All-Star break. His next start is projected to come at home against the Twins over the weekend.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Total lack of control Wednesday

Burke allowed two runs on two hits and eight walks while striking out three over three-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Wednesday.

Burke's control just wasn't there, and he ended up exiting at 92 pitches (46 strikes) while posting a fairly unusual stat line. His previous high mark for walks this year was five, done in back-to-back outings to begin June. The right-hander was at least able to limit damage, and the White Sox's offense handled the rest. Burke is at a 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 161:50 K:BB through 149 innings over 27 games (23 starts) this season. He still has a passable 3.0 BB/9 as well, and it's unlikely his control will falter to this extent too much more often, as long as he's not battling an injury. Burke is tentatively projected to make his next start at Houston.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Gives up four runs in no-decision

Burke didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Mets, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four without a walk over six innings.

Burke struggled early, allowing three runs over the first four innings before Bo Bichette extended New York's advantage with a solo homer in the fifth. The right-hander nevertheless completed six frames without issuing a free pass, and Chicago's three-homer outburst in the bottom of the sixth ultimately got him off the hook for the loss. Burke has pitched particularly well over the last two months despite remaining winless since July 19, posting a 2.90 ERA in 40.1 innings across seven starts since the All-Star break. He's lined up to make his next start at home against the Rangers.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Hit hard in no-decision

Burke did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Tigers, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings.

Burke ran into most of his trouble in the second inning, surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks before escaping a bases-loaded jam to prevent further damage. Colt Keith then jumped on the first pitch of the third inning for a solo homer. The four runs were the most Burke has allowed in a start over his last 10 outings, a dominant stretch in which he posted a 1.60 ERA with a 79:11 K:BB across 62 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next scheduled start Friday against the Mets.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Dominant effort in no-decision

Burke did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Reds, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

Burke allowed a solo homer in the fifth inning but was otherwise superb, generating a whopping 20 swinging strikes on 94 pitches and departing with a 4-1 lead his bullpen could not secure. It was an encouraging effort after the 26-year-old failed to complete five frames for the first time since June 13 last Wednesday, and he's now logged a quality start in six of his past seven outings. He'll carry a 2.99 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 152:39 K:BB across 135.2 innings this season into a road matchup with the Tigers this weekend.

  • White Sox's Sean Burke: Stumbles in sixth loss

Burke (7-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out four.

Wednesday's outing disrupted an exceptional stretch of play for Burke, who entered the day on a streak of five consecutive starts of at least six innings while yielding two runs or fewer. The right-hander labored Wednesday, needing 91 pitches to record 13 outs, and the four punchouts were his fewest since May 8 versus Seattle. Burke is set to carry what's still an outstanding 3.08 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 144:39 K:BB over 128.2 innings into a home matchup with the Reds.
