Alvarez was reassigned Tuesday to the minor-league side of Brewers camp, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Skye Bolt, Andruw Monasterio, Jon Singleton and Josh VanMeter were also reassigned in this round of cuts from major-league camp in Arizona. Alvarez inked a minor-league contract with Milwaukee in December. He carries a career .183 batting average and .524 OPS in 142 plate appearances at baseball's highest level.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' Eddy Alvarez: Invited to Brewers camp
Alvarez signed a minor-league with the Brewers on Saturday which includes an invitation to spring training, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The former Olympic speed skater has spent time in the big leagues in each of the last three seasons, but he hasn't made a meaningful impact in any of them. Alvarez has played 50 total major-league games, hitting .183/.262/.262 with one home run and four steals. If he sees any big-league time in his age-33 season, the results will likely be similar.... Eddy Alvarez: Cut loose by L.A.
The Dodgers released Alvarez (undisclosed) on Monday. Los Angeles elected to move on from Alvarez after designating him for assignment last week. He was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on July 3 but was shut down with an injury less than two weeks later and hasn't played since. Alvarez will likely turn his focus to recovering from his injury before looking to catch on with another organization on a minor-league deal ahead of the 2023 season.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Moves off 40-man roster
The Dodgers designated Alvarez for assignment Tuesday. The transaction clears a 40-man roster spot for reliever Heath Hembree, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City in advance of Tuesday's contest with the Mets. After being demoted to Triple-A on July 3, the 32-year-old Alvarez appeared in just four games before landing on Oklahoma City's 7-day injured list due to an unspecified issue. He hasn't played since July 12 and is without a clear timeline for returning to action at Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Optioned to minors
Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday. Alvarez got into 14 games in June, but he slashed a meager .160/.154/.314 while registering a 33.3 percent strikeout rate over 27 plate appearances. He logged much of his time in the outfield while with the Dodgers, and his opportunity there was likely to end with Mookie Betts (ribs) returning from the injured list Sunday. Alvarez had also lost time recently to Trayce Thompson, who has played well since being acquired by the Dodgers on June 20.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Remains out of lineup
Alvarez isn't starting Monday's game against the Rockies, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Alvarez went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Sunday's win over Atlanta and will retreat to the bench for the fourth time in the last five games. Trayce Thompson is starting in right field and batting ninth and appears to have usurped Alvarez as the Dodgers' preferred option at the position while Mookie Betts (rib) is on the injured list.... Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Still not starting
Alvarez isn't in the lineup Saturday against Atlanta, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Alvarez drew three consecutive starts for the Dodgers this week but has lost out on playing time recently. He'll be out of the lineup for a third consecutive game while Trayce Thompson starts in right field and bats sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Still not starting Friday
Alvarez isn't starting Friday's game against Atlanta, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Alvarez went 1-for-8 with a run, a stolen base and four strikeouts over his last three games and will be held out of the starting nine for a second consecutive matchup. Trayce Thompson is starting in right field and batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: On bench Thursday
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. Alvarez had started the past three games in right field in place of the injured Mookie Betts (rib), going 1-for-8 with a run scored and a stolen base. The Dodgers are still expected to deploy Alvarez as their primary option in right field, but with manager Dave Roberts wanting to give Will Smith a day off behind the plate, there won't be room in the lineup for Alvarez. With Smith serving as the Dodgers' designated hitter, Austin Barnes will pick up a start at catcher while Chris Taylor fills Alvarez's spot in the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Swipes bag Sunday
Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Guardians. Alvarez got the nod in right field, which could be a semi-regular occurrence as long as Mookie Betts (ribs) is on the injured list. In the seventh inning, Alvarez singled, stole second and scored the Dodgers' last run of the game. The 32-year-old switch hitter is 3-for-15 (.200) with no extra-base hits, one RBI and one run scored in nine contests this season. He'll compete with Zach McKinstry to fill the lineup spot left behind by Betts' absence.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Gets third straight start
Alvarez will serve as the Dodgers' designated hitter and No. 8 hitter in Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Alvarez will pick up his third consecutive start after going 2-for-6 with an RBI in his first two turns in the lineup. The Dodgers have an opening in the lineup with both Max Muncy (elbow) and Edwin Rios (hamstring) on the injured list, but Alvarez's run as a regular is expected to be short-lived. Muncy started a rehab assignment June 4 and looks like he'll be ready to go for this weekend's series in San Francisco.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Unlikely to break camp with Dodgers
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Alvarez isn't expected to be on the team's Opening Day roster, Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA reports. Alvarez has made a case for a roster spot with a strong spring during which he has slashed .375/.444/.792 with three home runs and six RBI over 12 games. However, it isn't clear where the veteran infielder might fit on a loaded Dodgers roster. It's unclear whether Friday's trade in which Los Angeles acquired Craig Kimbrel for AJ Pollock will impact Alvarez's prospects for a roster spot; as it stands, the primary beneficiary of playing time as a result of the move is likely to be Gavin Lux, who is tentatively slated to be the team's primary second baseman.... Dodgers' Eddy Alvarez: Links up with Dodgers
Alvarez announced Jan. 1 via his personal Instagram account that he agreed to a minor-league contract with the Dodgers. Los Angeles has yet to officially announce the deal, so until that happens, the 32-year-old won't be participating in minor-league spring training even though he's not a member of the 40-man roster. Once the MLB lockout concludes, Alvarez will presumably join the Dodgers for major-league spring training, at which point he'll compete for a utility role on the Opening Day roster while attending camp as a non-roster invitee. The veteran infielder has seen action in 36 MLB games with Miami between the past two seasons, slashing .188/.287/.287 with one home run and three stolen bases across 115 plate appearances.... Marlins' Eddy Alvarez: Cast off 40-man roster
Alvarez was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Alvarez spent the final month of the 2021 campaign with the major-league club and hit .188 with a homer, eight runs, six RBI and a stolen base across 24 games. He'll be removed from the 40-man roster but will likely compete for a major-league roster spot during spring training in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Eddy Alvarez: Two hits, stolen base
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a triple, run, RBI, stolen base and strikeout in Sunday's 5-4 victory over Philadelphia. Miami has been making a point to give Alvarez more run, and the 31-year-old delivered with a two-hit performance featuring his first career triple and first theft of the season. He concludes a 24-game season with a .188/.297/.328 slash line, one home run, eight runs and six RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Eddy Alvarez: Stepping up at third base
Alvarez is starting at third base Friday against the Pirates and is expected to see more playing time down the stretch, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. GM Kim Ng and manager Don Mattingly recently indicated they wanted to see Alvarez receive more opportunities over the final couple weeks of the season, and they have apparently followed through on those statements since Isan Diaz was optioned to the minors Friday. Alvarez in 2-for-18 in eight games this season but should see regular time at the hot corner going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Eddy Alvarez: Swats first big-league homer
Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in a 6-4 victory over Atlanta on Saturday. The 31-year-old has navigated a long path to the majors, and after going homerless in 41 plate appearances last season, he slugged his first big-league long ball off Charlie Morton in the second inning Saturday. It was just the second hit overall for Alvarez since being called up to the big club Sept. 7. He has never been a prolific power hitter -- Alvarez's career high for homers in a minor-league campaign is 12 in 2019 -- so fantasy managers need not rush to pluck him off the waiver wire.... Marlins' Eddy Alvarez: Promoted to majors
Alvarez's contract was selected from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The 31-year-old infielder hit .288/.423/.441 with four home runs and two steals in 31 games at Triple-A. With Miguel Rojas (neck) and Jon Berti (concussion) banged up, Alvarez will provide some short-term depth.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Eddy Alvarez: Remains in organization
Alvarez cleared waivers Friday and was outrighted the Marlins' alternate training site, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The 30-year-old made his big-league debut this season but accomplished very little at the plate in 12 games, hitting .189/.268/.216. He'll remain in an organizational depth role moving forward.... Marlins' Eddy Alvarez: DFA'd by Miami
Alvarez was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Sunday. The 30-year-old saw regular action for the Marlins during a brief stretch in August following the team's COVID-19 outbreak, but he's now been removed from the 40-man roster. Alvarez had a .189/.268/.216 slash line with six runs, two stolen bases and 16 strikeouts in 41 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less
