Ortega was reassigned to the Twins' minor-league camp Thursday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Ortega split time last season between the Angels and their Triple-A affiliate, racking up 33 strikeouts in 34 major-league innings alongside a 3.71 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. His spring numbers were solid too, so he will return to Triple-A and likely be one of the top candidates to be called up should the Twins need more depth in their bullpen.... See More ... See Less

Twins' Oliver Ortega: Outrighted to Triple-A
Ortega cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul by the Twins on Tuesday. Ortega will remain in the organization after being designated for assignment and has been invited to major-league spring training. The 26-year-old had been a waiver claim of the Twins earlier this month.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Oliver Ortega: DFA'd by Twins
Ortega was designated for assignment by the Twins on Tuesday. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for A.J. Alexy, who was acquired via trade. Ortega was just picked up off waivers a few days ago and now could be on the move again. He holds a 3.95 ERA over 35 relief appearances in the majors covering the last two seasons.... See More ... Twins' Oliver Ortega: Claimed by Minnesota
Ortega was claimed off waivers by the Twins on Friday. Ortega was recently designated for assignment by the Angels but will remain on a 40-man roster with the Twins. The hard-throwing righty had a 3.71 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB across 34 innings last season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: DFA'd by Halos
Ortega was designated for assignment by the Angels on Thursday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. Ortega had a 1.71 ERA across his first 15 appearances of 2022, but he had a 6.92 ERA in his next 12 outings and finished the campaign in the minors. The 26-year-old has now lost his spot on the 40-man roster, though he'll still likely report to big-league camp for spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Hits minor-league IL
Ortega (undisclosed) was placed on Triple-A Salt Lake's 7-day injured list Friday. The cause of Ortega's move to the IL is unclear, but he last pitched for Salt Lake on Tuesday. The right-hander has spent much of the season in the majors, posting a 3.71 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB over 34 innings for the Angels.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Heads back to minors
The Angels returned Ortega to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. Ortega's stay with the big club lasted just one day after he was designated as the Angels' 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader with the Mariners. He appeared in relief in the Angels' 7-1 win in the second half of the twin bill, striking out two over a scoreless inning.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Serving as 27th man
Ortega was called up to serve as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader against Seattle. Ortega has thrown 33 innings for the big-league bullpen this season, posting a respectable 3.82 ERA. It's unclear if he'll have the chance to stick around beyond Saturday's twin bill.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Optioned to Triple-A
Ortega was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Ortega's latest big-league stint lasted just over two weeks. He posted a 3.86 ERA in seven innings and recorded his first career save, but he also stumbled to a 2.00 WHIP. Reid Detmers was recalled in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Takes loss Tuesday
Ortega (1-3) was tagged with the loss against the White Sox on Tuesday as a result of giving up two runs on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one batter. Ortega's control of the zone was fine, as he threw 15 of 19 pitches for strikes. However, the right-hander was too hittable, giving up a trio of base knocks including a two-run homer off the bat of Luis Robert. Long balls have been a problem for Ortega of late -- he's given up four over his past 6.2 innings after yielding just one homer across his first 24 frames of the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Posts two-inning save
Ortega allowed a hit and struck out two in two innings to earn the save in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Mariners. This was Ortega's first big-league save, and his first at any level since he logged five with Double-A Rocket City last year. The 25-year-old has also struggled to keep runs off the board, as this was only the second time in his last seven appearances he's quieted an opposing offense. Ortega has a 3.60 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 27:13 K:BB and five holds through 30 innings in 22 appearances this season, but he shouldn't be expected to see many save chances long-term. He got the opportunity Sunday because Raisel Iglesias and Ryan Tepera, the top-two closing options, were ejected during a brawl earlier in the contest, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.... Angels' Oliver Ortega: Up with big-league club
Ortega was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Ortega was demoted after giving up five runs (one earned) over two innings during his last appearance for the Angels on June 11, and he'll return to the majors ahead of Wednesday's matchup with the Royals. The 25-year-old has appeared in 20 big-league games this year and has a 3.81 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB over 26 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Sent to Triple-A
Ortega was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Ortega had been with the team since Opening Day, recording a respectable 3.81 ERA in 26 innings of relief. He's struggled significantly over his last five outings, however, giving up 11 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in five innings of work. Austin Warren (nose) was activated off the injured list to take his place in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Continues strong campaign
Ortega pitched 2.1 scoreless innings against Boston on Wednesday, allowing one hit and striking out two. He did not factor in the decision. Reid Detmers started for the Angels and completed 4.2 frames before Ortega was summoned with the Red Sox up a run in the fifth. The latter got Xander Bogaerts to ground out to end the inning, and he went on to pitch two more frames, allowing just a harmless single. This was the fifth time in nine outings this season during which Ortega has thrown at least two innings, and he hasn't allowed a run since his first appearance of the campaign. The right-hander has posted a 1.23 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB across 14.2 frames, though he has limited value in fantasy since he has yet to pick up any holds or saves.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Wins Opening Day roster spot
Ortega has earned a spot in the Angels' Opening Day bullpen, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Ortega was one of several Angels relievers competing for a bullpen role to begin the year, and he'll work in a low-leverage role early in the 2022 season. The 25-year-old made eight major-league appearances last year and posted a 4.82 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 9.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Oliver Ortega: Earns first career win
Ortega (1-0) fired 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit to earn the win over the Mariners on Sunday. Ortega relieved Reid Detmers with two outs and a runner on first in the second inning. He retired Ty France to end the inning, and he held the lead in the third frame to receive his first win. The 24-year-old finished the season with a 4.82 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in his eight relief appearances.... See More ... See Less
