  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Serving as opener again

Kerr will start Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Sunday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The left-hander served as the opener in Game 3 of the wild-card series versus the Phillies, and he pitched well with just one hit and one walk allowed across 3.1 scoreless frames. Kerr ended up working longer than the expected bulk reliever Grant Holmes, and Atlanta could have a similar game plan Sunday.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Will open Game 3

Kerr will be Atlanta's opener Thursday in Game 3 of the wild-card series versus the Phillies. The left-handed Kerr will be tasked with facing lefties Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper at least once. He threw 6.1 scoreless frames covering two appearances in September against Philadelphia. Grant Holmes is slated to absorb the lion's share of the workload for Atlanta in Game 3 as a bulk reliever.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Opening Friday's game

Kerr will be Atlanta's opener in Friday's game versus the Marlins, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Kerr has topped out at 3.1 innings in his eight appearances for Atlanta this season, but he hasn't thrown more than 35 pitches in any outing so it will be an abbreviated start. Grant Holmes is an option for bulk relief Friday, though Atlanta could also opt for a straight bullpen game. Kerr has yielded just three runs with an 11:1 K:BB over 15.1 innings this season.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Back in big leagues

Atlanta selected Kerr's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. In a corresponding move, Danny Young was designated for assignment. Kerr last appeared in the majors with Atlanta in 2024, submitting a 5.64 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 22.1 innings before undergoing Tommy John surgery that June.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Back to full health

Kerr (elbow) allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out four batters over three innings in two appearances for Double-A Columbus since being assigned to the affiliate Wednesday after being reinstated from Triple-A Gwinnett's 60-day injured list. Kerr missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from the Tommy John surgery he underwent the previous summer, then opened the season on Gwinnett's injured list after experiencing a setback following his lone relief appearance in the Grapefruit League. The 31-year-old southpaw was cleared to begin a rehab assignment June 14 and made four appearances in the lower levels of the minors before being activated from the IL. After the pair of outings at Double-A, Kerr was promoted to Triple-A on Tuesday.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Opening season on Gwinnett's IL

Triple-A Gwinnett placed Kerr (elbow) on its 60-day injured list March 18. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in the summer of 2024, Kerr appeared to be back to full strength for spring training, as he made a one-inning Grapefruit League appearance Feb. 24. He didn't pitch in any games after that, however, with Lindsay Crosby of BravesToday.com relaying that Kerr will require additional rehab from elbow surgery before returning to action at Gwinnett.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Joining Atlanta for camp

Atlanta assigned Kerr (elbow) to its big-league camp Monday. Kerr was already under contract with the organization on a minor-league deal, but his assignment to big-league camp seemingly indicates that he's back to full health after undergoing Tommy John surgery in the summer of 2024. The 31-year-old lefty previously made 39 relief appearances between stops with San Diego and Atlanta from 2022 through 2024, recording a 5.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 54.1 innings. He'll likely open the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Back with Atlanta on minors deal

Atlanta re-signed Kerr (elbow) to a minor-league contract Tuesday. Kerr was non-tendered by Atlanta last week but is back in the organization as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The left-hander is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season.

  • Ray Kerr: No contract from Atlanta

Atlanta non-tendered Kerr on Friday. Kerr appeared in 10 games (including two starts) for Atlanta in 2024 and posted a 5.64 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 22.1 innings out of the bullpen. However, he suffered a UCL injury in his left elbow in mid-June which required the 30-year-old southpaw to undergo Tommy John surgery. Kerr will be out for most, if not all, of the 2025 campaign, and while he's now a free agent, he could opt to return to Atlanta to continue his rehab program.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Headed for Tommy John surgery

Manager Brian Snitker announced Monday that Kerr (elbow) will require Tommy John surgery, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Kerr was moved to the 15-day injured list earlier in the day due to a UCL injury, and Snitker confirmed shortly after that the lefty will undergo surgery to repair the ligament. With the news, Kerr's 2024 campaign will officially come to an end after posting a 5.64 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with a 27:7 K:BB across 22.1 innings. He'll likely also miss a good chunk of the 2025 season depending on how he fares during his rehab.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Goes on IL with UCL injury

Atlanta voided Kerr's option to Triple-A Gwinnett and placed him on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow UCL injury. Kerr had been sent down to Triple-A on June 15, but he never made an appearance for Gwinnett following the demotion, so the transaction has been rescinded. Atlanta hasn't provided much detail regarding Kerr's injury, but UCL damage is often a precursor to Tommy John surgery.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Back in bullpen Wednesday

Kerr tossed 2.1 innings of relief in Wednesday's 9-0 loss to the Red Sox, giving up two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two. Kerr had started in both of his previous two appearances, but he shifted back to the bullpen this week while Atlanta opted to scale back to a five-man rotation following Monday's off day. With starter Spencer Schwellenbach getting chased from the game midway through the fifth inning while Atlanta faced a 5-0 deficit, Kerr immediately allowed a run-scoring double and then walked a batter before inducing an inning-ending flyout to leave the bases load. The run he let in was tacked on to Schwellenbach's final line, but Kerr was charged with two runs of his own when he served up a 361-foot home run to Rafael Devers in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on base. Assuming Atlanta isn't yet ready to pull the plug on Schwellenbach as its No. 5 starter, Kerr looks set to remain in the bullpen as a lower-leverage, multi-inning option.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Surrenders three runs in loss

Kerr (1-2) took the loss against the Nationals on Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out seven. Kerr struck out three of the first four batters he faced, but things began to unravel for the 29-year-old in the top of the third after he hit Jacob Young with a pitch. The lefty would end up surrendering three runs in the frame on two hits and a walk while also plunking another batter. Kerr has allowed at least three runs in each of his first two starts, taking the loss on each occasion. He also hasn't gone more than four innings in any of his outings with Atlanta.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Recalled from Triple-A

Atlanta recalled Kerr from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Grant McAuley of 929 The Game reports. Kerr holds a 4.50 ERA and an impressive 22:5 K:BB across 14 innings this season with Gwinnett. He will give manager Brian Snitker another left-handed bullpen option while Tyler Matzek (elbow) is sidelined.

  • Padres' Ray Kerr: Summoned from El Paso

The Padres recalled Kerr from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Kerr will join the big-league bullpen as a replacement for right-hander Steven Wilson, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left hip inflammation. The 28-year-old southpaw has previously made 13 relief appearances for the Padres this season, compiling a 6.28 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 14.1 innings.

  • Padres' Ray Kerr: Optioned to El Paso

San Diego optioned Kerr to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Michael Wacha (shoulder) has been activated from the injured list in a corresponding roster move and will start for the Padres on Tuesday night against the Orioles. Kerr, 28, carries a 6.28 ERA in 14.1 innings this season at the major-league level.

  • Padres' Ray Kerr: Gets call to majors

The Padres recalled Kerr from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Kerr will give the Padres another left-handed option out of the bullpen after the Padres moved southpaw reliever Tim Hill (finger) to the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 28-year-old Kerr has previously made eight appearances for San Diego this season, giving up five earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven over eight innings.

  • Padres' Ray Kerr: Promotion imminent

Kerr will be promoted from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. With Reiss Knehr (elbow) landing on the injured list after filling in for Yu Darvish (illness) on Tuesday, Kerr will be called upon to provide much-needed depth to the Padres' bullpen. Kerr holds a 6.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP through six innings in the majors this season.

  • Padres' Ray Kerr: Back in minors

The Padres optioned Kerr to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. Kerr made four appearances out of the bullpen after being called up June 16, allowing four earned runs through 4.2 innings of work. After a subpar MLB stint, he'll return to Triple-A to make room for Matt Waldron on the active roster, as Waldron will get a spot start Saturday against the Nationals.

  • Padres' Ray Kerr: Moves to Triple-A

San Diego optioned Kerr to Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Kerr was sent down to make room for Domingo Tapia, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding transaction. During his latest call-up period, the lefty appeared in two games out of the bullpen while throwing 1.1 scoreless innings.
