  • Athletics' Cal Stevenson: Racking up free passes

Stevenson went 0-for-3 with a pair of walks and a stolen base in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers. Making his first career start out of the leadoff spot, Stevenson did his part by drawing the pair of free passes and also put his speed on display on the bases. Though he's off to a 2-for-13 start to his big-league career, he's drawn five walks over his first five games to prop his on-base percentage up to .389. Stevenson looks like he'll continue to get steady run as Oakland's everyday center fielder.

  • Athletics' Cal Stevenson: Starts in first three MLB games

Stevenson, who was promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, is hitting .286 (2-for-7) with two walks and a run over his first three major-league games. He's also been caught stealing once. The promising prospect earned the callup after slashing a stellar .305/.417/.542 with the Aviators over 16 games following his acquisition from the Rays organization. Stevenson has held his own against big-league arms thus far in the very small sample of nine plate appearances, and his 67 stolen bases over 338 minor-league games gives him some upside in that department.

  • Athletics' Cal Stevenson: Receives call-up to Oakland

The Athletics selected Stevenson's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. He'll start in center field and bat ninth in his MLB debut Wednesday against the Angels. Stevenson will take over the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster spot of designated hitter Jed Lowrie, whom the Athletics designated for assignment in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old Stevenson was acquired from the Rays earlier in the summer in the deal that sent Christian Bethancourt to Tampa Bay, and since joining the Oakland organization, he produced a .305/.417/.542 slash line with three home runs and six stolen bases over 72 plate appearances at Triple-A. The lefty-hitting Stevenson has played all three outfield spots in the minors this season and could get a look as an everyday player in his first taste of the big leagues, though the Athletics will likely try to limit his exposure to southpaws.

  • Astros' Cal Stevenson: Sent to Houston

Stevenson was traded from the Blue Jays to the Astros along with Joe Biagini and Aaron Sanchez in exchange for Derek Fisher on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. A 10th-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2018, Stevenson has posted strong numbers in 90 games for High-A Dunedin this season, hitting .298/.388/.393 with five homers and 11 steals. His plate control has been particularly impressive, as he owns a 12.8 percent walk rate and a 13.3 percent strikeout rate. He owns an excellent 114:76 BB:K thus far as a professional.
