Vavra (shoulder) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. The Orioles needed to clear space on their 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday's Rule 5 Draft protection deadline and Vavra is one of the victims. He'll remain in the organization, but it's unclear what his health situation is after he ended the season with right shoulder issues.... See More ... See Less

Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Goes on 60-day IL
The Orioles recalled Vavra from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a strained right shoulder. Vavra has resided on Norfolk's IL since mid-June due to the shoulder injury, but he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Delmarva on Aug. 31. However, he appeared in just two games for the affiliate before being pulled off the rehab assignment after experiencing a setback with the shoulder. The Orioles haven't revealed whether or not Vavra's injury is season-ending, but he's not expected to see any action with the big club again in 2023 even if his setback proves to be a minor one. The Orioles moved him to the 60-day IL in the big leagues for the purpose of opening up a spot on the 40-man roster for first baseman/outfielder Heston Kjerstad, whose contract was selected from Triple-A.... Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Optioned to Norfolk
The Orioles optioned Vavra to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. With Danny Coulombe returning from the bereavement list Tuesday, Vavra will serve as Baltimore's roster casualty. Vavra is slashing .245/.315/.245 in the majors this season and hasn't appeared in a game since the end of May.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Hits bench versus lefty
Vavra is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. With southpaw Nestor Cortes on the hill for New York, the lefty-hitting Vavra will head to the bench while Anthony Santander steps in as Baltimore's right fielder. Vavra had picked up starts at either corner-outfield spot in five of the past eight games while going 5-for-16 with four RBI, three runs and a stolen base.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Starting in right field
Vavra is starting in right field and batting eighth for the Orioles in Tuesday's game versus the Yankees, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Anthony Santander will be in the designated hitter spot for this one, opening up right field for Vavra. The 26-year-old Vavra has produced a .646 OPS in 21 games with the Orioles this season.... Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Notches first steal
Vavra went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Angels. Vavra is getting a bit of run in the corner outfield, and he's gone 2-for-8 with one RBI, a walk and two runs scored over his last three games. The utility man is slashing a modest .242/.342/.242, as all eight of his hits this season have been singles. He's unlikely to bat higher than the bottom third of the order if he can maintain his newfound playing time.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Nabs third straight start
Vavra will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Angels. With Ramon Urias (hamstring) recently landing on the injured list and with Kyle Stowers having been demoted to Triple-A Norfolk, Vavra appears to have settled into the open spot in the Baltimore lineup. He'll be making his third consecutive start Wednesday, all of which have come in the corner outfield. The lefty-hitting Vavra could still find himself out of the lineup versus southpaws.... Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Starting in right field
Vavra is starting in right field and batting eighth for the Orioles in Monday's game versus the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. With Kyle Stowers optioned and Anthony Santander spending a large chunk of his time at designated hitter, there are some at-bats to be had in right field for the O's. Vavra hasn't done much at the plate during his opportunities this season, picking up six hits -- all singles -- in 26 at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Called up Tuesday
Vavra was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Vavra will return to Baltimore after being sent down to Norfolk on April 27. Over nine games in Triple-A, Vavra produced a .286 average with four doubles, five RBI, eight runs scored and a stolen base over 42 at-bats. He did strike out at least once in every contest though, going down on strikes 11 times over those nine contests. In the big leagues, he'll help replace Ramon Urias (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Making strong impression
Vavra is hitting .342 (13-for-38) over 13 Grapefruit League games. Vavra is in contention to open the season as a utility man for the Orioles. He's done about all he can to prove he's ready for the role in spring training, but it's unclear if he'll break camp with the team. With starting roles around the diamond pretty well defined, Vavra is unlikely to be more than a bench bat if he makes the team, so it's possible the Orioles will want the 25-year-old to log more consistent playing time with Triple-A Norfolk.... Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Swinging again
Vavra (shoulder) said he will resume swinging a bat Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra noted that he feels much better since experiencing left shoulder discomfort late last week, and his ability to swing the bat again should represent an important test as he aims to return to the Grapefruit League lineup. If all goes well during his workout Tuesday, Vavra could be cleared for game action within the next couple of days.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Should not miss much time
Vavra said Sunday that his injured shoulder is feeling better and that he "should not be out long," Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's spring game, and he remains out of the lineup for Sunday's exhibition contest. However, it does not appear he is dealing with an issue that will put his availability for Opening Day in question.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Dealing with sore shoulder
Vavra is considered day-to-day with left shoulder discomfort, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's exhibition contest, and it was revealed afterward that he felt soreness while taking part in batting practice prior to the game. It remains to be seen if he will miss any additional time.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: In mix for reps at first base
Vavra is being considered for the backup role at first base, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra is far from alone in the competition to be Ryan Mountcastle's understudy at first. The group also includes Anthony Santander, Franchy Cordero and James McCann. There doesn't appear to be a clear path to playing time for Vavra, who has seen at least some time at every position excluding first and catcher over the last two years. He's most likely to be a utility man if he breaks camp with the Orioles.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Still out with hamstring injury
Vavra (hamstring) is not in Tuesday's lineup, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. With Jesus Aguilar falling out of favor, it seemed that Vavra could take on a larger role down the stretch, but that is now going to Kyle Stowers due to Vavra's hamstring injury.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Misses Monday with hamstring issue
Vavra was unavailable Monday versus the Red Sox due to hamstring soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra has been a part-timer for much of September anyway, so his absence isn't likely to make much of an impact. It's unclear if he'll be ready to start or available off the bench in Tuesday's game.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Loses hold of regular role
Vavra is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The lefty-hitting Vavra is on the bench versus a right-hander (Cal Quantrill) for the fourth game in a row and appears to have lost hold of an everyday role. The Orioles will likely rotate the open spot in the lineup among a number of players, but fellow rookie Kyle Stowers looks to be the main beneficiary. Stowers will be making his third start in five contests Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Remains on bench
Vavra is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Houston, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra is 1-for-18 over his past nine appearances and will take a seat Sunday for the fourth time in five games. Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter while Robinson Chirinos works behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Remains on bench
Vavra isn't starting Saturday against the Astros, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Vavra went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts over his last two games and will take a seat for the third time in the last four matchups. Cedric Mullins will serve as the designated hitter and lead off.... Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Takes seat Friday
Vavra is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra is 1-for-18 with seven strikeouts in his last nine contests and will head to the bench Friday. Anthony Santander will serve as the designated hitter while Kyle Stowers starts in the outfield in the series opener.... See More ... See Less
