  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Back from IL

Vavra (groin) has gone 3-for-8 over two contests for Triple-A Norfolk since he was activated from the injured list. Vavra suffered the groin strain in early June and missed just under a month of time. He's been limited to 19 games at Triple-A due to the groin injury and a shoulder issue that sidelined him at the start of the season. He's slashing .284/.377/.433 over 77 plate appearances, but he'll have a tough time getting to the majors given the Orioles' already crowded infield on the 26-man roster and at Triple-A.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Lands on IL with groin strain

Triple-A Norfolk placed Vavra on the 7-day injured list Friday due to a left groin strain, Jake Rill of reports. It will be the second time Vavra has been placed on the minor-league injured list this season. Since returning from a right shoulder strain May 12, Vavra has slashed .271/.377/.424 with two home runs and 12 RBI over 59 at-bats.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Returns from IL

Triple-A Norfolk reinstated Vavra (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Sunday. Vavra, who had been on the shelf all season with a right shoulder strain, has been cleared to make his 2024 debut for Norfolk after he completed a four-game rehab assignment with two of the Orioles' lower-level affiliates. Between stops in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and at High-A Aberdeen, Vavra went 4-for-16 with a double, three RBI and two runs.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Rehabbing in Florida

Vavra (shoulder) began a rehab assignment Saturday with the Orioles' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, going 0-for-3 with an RBI while playing seven innings at first base. Vavra has been on Triple-A Norfolk's 7-day injured list all season but should be on the cusp of making his 2024 debut for the Orioles' top affiliate. The 26-year-old is working his way back from a strained right shoulder, which sidelined him for most of the second half of the 2023 season.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Not in major-league camp

Vavra (shoulder) is on a throwing progression at the Orioles' minor-league complex and won't begin spring training at major-league camp, Roch Kubatko of reports. Vavra's target date for game action is mid-March, and it's possible he could be invited to major-league camp at that time. That said, the utility player faces an uphill battle to begin the year with the Orioles given the team's depth. It's more likely he starts at Triple-A Norfolk once he completes his recovery from a right shoulder strain that cost him the second half of 2023.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Outrighted to Triple-A

Vavra (shoulder) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of reports. The Orioles needed to clear space on their 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday's Rule 5 Draft protection deadline and Vavra is one of the victims. He'll remain in the organization, but it's unclear what his health situation is after he ended the season with right shoulder issues.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Goes on 60-day IL

The Orioles recalled Vavra from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a strained right shoulder. Vavra has resided on Norfolk's IL since mid-June due to the shoulder injury, but he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Delmarva on Aug. 31. However, he appeared in just two games for the affiliate before being pulled off the rehab assignment after experiencing a setback with the shoulder. The Orioles haven't revealed whether or not Vavra's injury is season-ending, but he's not expected to see any action with the big club again in 2023 even if his setback proves to be a minor one. The Orioles moved him to the 60-day IL in the big leagues for the purpose of opening up a spot on the 40-man roster for first baseman/outfielder Heston Kjerstad, whose contract was selected from Triple-A.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Notches first steal

Vavra went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Angels. Vavra is getting a bit of run in the corner outfield, and he's gone 2-for-8 with one RBI, a walk and two runs scored over his last three games. The utility man is slashing a modest .242/.342/.242, as all eight of his hits this season have been singles. He's unlikely to bat higher than the bottom third of the order if he can maintain his newfound playing time.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Nabs third straight start

Vavra will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Angels. With Ramon Urias (hamstring) recently landing on the injured list and with Kyle Stowers having been demoted to Triple-A Norfolk, Vavra appears to have settled into the open spot in the Baltimore lineup. He'll be making his third consecutive start Wednesday, all of which have come in the corner outfield. The lefty-hitting Vavra could still find himself out of the lineup versus southpaws.

Vavra hasn't done much at the plate during his opportunities this season, picking up six hits -- all singles -- in 26 at-bats.

He did strike out at least once in every contest though, going down on strikes 11 times over those nine contests. In the big leagues, he'll help replace Ramon Urias (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Swinging again

Vavra (shoulder) said he will resume swinging a bat Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of reports. Vavra noted that he feels much better since experiencing left shoulder discomfort late last week, and his ability to swing the bat again should represent an important test as he aims to return to the Grapefruit League lineup. If all goes well during his workout Tuesday, Vavra could be cleared for game action within the next couple of days.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Dealing with sore shoulder

Vavra is considered day-to-day with left shoulder discomfort, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. It remains to be seen if he will miss any additional time.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: In mix for reps at first base

Vavra is being considered for the backup role at first base, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra is far from alone in the competition to be Ryan Mountcastle's understudy at first. The group also includes Anthony Santander, Franchy Cordero and James McCann. There doesn't appear to be a clear path to playing time for Vavra, who has seen at least some time at every position excluding first and catcher over the last two years. He's most likely to be a utility man if he breaks camp with the Orioles.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Still out with hamstring injury

Vavra (hamstring) is not in Tuesday's lineup, Roch Kubatko of reports. With Jesus Aguilar falling out of favor, it seemed that Vavra could take on a larger role down the stretch, but that is now going to Kyle Stowers due to Vavra's hamstring injury.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Misses Monday with hamstring issue

Vavra was unavailable Monday versus the Red Sox due to hamstring soreness, Roch Kubatko of reports. Vavra has been a part-timer for much of September anyway, so his absence isn't likely to make much of an impact. It's unclear if he'll be ready to start or available off the bench in Tuesday's game.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Loses hold of regular role

Vavra is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Roch Kubatko of reports. The lefty-hitting Vavra is on the bench versus a right-hander (Cal Quantrill) for the fourth game in a row and appears to have lost hold of an everyday role. The Orioles will likely rotate the open spot in the lineup among a number of players, but fellow rookie Kyle Stowers looks to be the main beneficiary. Stowers will be making his third start in five contests Tuesday.
