  • Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Expected to miss 8-to-10 weeks

The Guardians announced Tuesday that Bazzana has been diagnosed with a right internal oblique strain and is expected to be out for 8-to-10 weeks.

Bazzana suffered the injury on a swing during a game with Double-A Akron last Wednesday. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, Bazzana has slashed .252/.362/.433 with four home runs and eight stolen bases over 33 contests with Akron this season. The injury won't help Bazzana's chances of reaching the majors later this season.

  • Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Injured at Double-A

Bazzana is being evaluated for an injury to his right side at Double-A Akron, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Bazzana tweaked his side during the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday and was absent from RubberDucks' lineup Thursday. At this point, it's not clear how long the first overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft might be sidelined. Bazzana is slashing .252/.362/.433 with four home runs and eight stolen bases over 33 contests with Akron this season. He's homered twice and boasts a 1.013 OPS across his last 10 games.

The first overall in the 2024 draft, Bazzana immediately showed off his 70-grade hit tool and could breeze through the system on his way toward the starting job at second base for the Guardians later this season.

  • Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Starting season at Double-A level

Bazzana will begin the season at Double-A Akron, MLB.com reports.

The first overall selection in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, Bazzana did not receive an invitation to the major-league side of spring training with the Guardians but still saw action in seven games, going 2-for-12 with a home run and a 4:4 K:BB. Bazzana made his pro debut at High-A Lake County last season and will move up to Akron to begin the 2025 campaign. The Guardians' second-base job is wide open, and Bazzana has a chance to claim it at some point this season.

  • Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Goes yard Tuesday

Bazzana walked twice and hit a three-run home run in Tuesday's Cactus League game against Milwaukee.

Bazzana entered in the sixth inning to play second base. The 22-year-old's notoriously discerning eye was on display in his first two plate appearances when he worked walks. He then jumped on the first pitch he saw in the bottom the ninth inning, going deep over the wall in right field. He's not expected to win the Guardians' open job at second base to start the season, but Bazzana and his 70 hit tool could reach the majors in 2025.
