AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell11H agoFinal: Padres 4, Cardinals 2 Manny Machado is holding off on elbow surgery at least until the Padres are mathematically eliminated. Essentially, he stuck around for a night like this one. Machado homered twice, including a go-ahead blast in the 8th. SD has won 8 straight.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell12H agoThe Padres went to Luis García for the 8th with a one-run lead, indicating that Josh Hader probably isn't available. Hader pitched 3 straight but none more than 13 pitches, and the team was off yesterday. Anyway, García surrendered the lead, and the winning streak is in jeopardy.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell2D agoThe Cubs lost again tonight so it’s time to acknowledge it: The Padres might be alive in the playoff race. Yesterday, Xander Bogaerts said they were, “Still hoping for a miracle.” That’s about what it’d take. But 4 games back with 9 to play, the Padres at least have a pulse.

Kevin Acee@sdutKevinAcee3D ago“For five months we were like, ‘We need to make it happen.' ... We didn’t make it happen. So I feel like we just said ‘(Expletive) it!’ And we went out there and play baseball and play as kids.” Padres come back, beat Rockies for 7th consecutive victory https://t.co/aT37gfWn4U

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell3D agoWhere has this team been? “It was there,” said Fernando Tatis Jr. “It just was not happening. … We found an answer we were looking for the entire year. Sadly, it took this long.” Even if the Padres have answers, they know they’ve come far too late: https://t.co/tyxdxTNvyF
