The Marlins optioned Burdick to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Burdick struggled heavily in the majors after being called up from Triple-A, slashing .182/.270/.333 with 18 strikeouts through 37 plate appearances. He'll return to the minors -- where his OPS jumps to 1.017 on the year -- in hopes of finding his swing again. The newly-acquired Jonathan Davis was selected to Miami's major-league roster in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less

Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Nabs third start in four games
Burdick will start in right field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Burdick will pick up his third start in four games, and he could be in store for a semi-regular role in the corner outfield in the short term after Jesus Sanchez (hamstring) joined Avisail Garcia (back) on the 10-day injured list Sunday. Since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Jacksonville on May 3, Burdick has gone 4-for-16 with a home run, two doubles and one stolen base over seven games.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Recalled from Triple-A
Miami recalled Burdick from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Burdick will join the big club as a replacement for Garrett Cooper, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with an inner ear infection. In 113 plate appearances with Jacksonville this season, Burdick hit .293 with a 1.017 OPS and 10 home runs while adding five stolen bases, but he also had a ghastly 38.9 percent strikeout rate. He struggled to a .207/.284/.380 slash line in his 32 games with the Marlins in 2022, but he'll get another chance to see if the success he's had in the minors can translate to the highest level.... Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Slugging to begin season
Burdick has hit seven home runs through his first 14 games at Triple-A Jacksonville, producing a .351/.422/.789 slash line line that also includes four doubles, 15 runs, 15 RBI and three steals. It's an impressive power display for the 26-year-old, but Burdick has also struck out 23 times in those 14 contests. The 2019 third-round pick hit 19 homers with 14 stolen bases in 131 games split between Miami and Jacksonville in 2022, and his tools have always been loud; however, until he starts showing an ability to make more consistent contact, it's tough to project much fantasy utility for him at the highest level.... Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Sent to Triple-A
The Marlins optioned Burdick to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Burdick will make his way to Jacksonville after he was hindered by a toe injury in spring training. The outfielder logged 16 at-bats in the Grapefruit League, producing a .250 average with one homer, four RBI and three runs scored over 10 games. The 26-year-old saw action in 32 games with the Marlins in 2022 and compiled an uninspiring .207/.284/.380 slash line. Consequently, he may find it difficult to see any meaningful at-bats with Miami in 2023 considering the team's current depth in the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Available Tuesday
Burdick (toe) is listed as an available reserve option Tuesday for the Marlins' Grapefruit League game against the Astros, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Burdick looks like he'll have a chance to make his first spring appearance since March 7 after being sidelined for the past two weeks with a right toe sprain. Before sustaining the injury, Burdick might have been on the outside looking in for a spot on the Marlins' Opening Day roster, so the missed time certainly didn't help his cause.... See More ... Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Undergoing MRI on toe
Burdick underwent an MRI on his sprained right big toe Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The severity of Burdick's injury and his expected return date should become clear once the results of the test are known. The outfielder hit .207/.284/.380 in his 32-game debut last season and was competing for a bench spot at best even before the injury.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Launches two-run homer
Burdick went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Brewers. Burdick's two-run shot in the third inning sent Jordan Groshans to the plate for the first runs of the game. It was his third homer of the season and his first since Aug. 26 after seeing limited time. The young outfielder has 87 at-bats since Aug. 5, but he has not done much to instill confidence in him to produce, as he is slashing .172/.258/.322.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Takes seat Monday
Burdick is out of the lineup Monday versus the Dodgers, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports. Burdick will get a breather after he went 2-for-10 with a solo homer and two runs scored while starting the first three games of the series. Jerar Encarnacion will take over in left field and bat ninth in the series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Swats second homer
Burdick went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's extra-inning loss to the Dodgers. The 25-year-old rookie staved off the loss temporarily by taking David Price deep in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game, but Los Angeles then erupted for five runs in the top of the 10th. The homer was the second of Burdick's brief MLB career so far, but through 20 games since his promotion he's slashing only .169/.260/.323 with a 35.6 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Steals first bag in majors
Burdick went 0-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the A's. The 25-year-old rookie also struck out three times, but Burdick made the most of his one time on base after reaching on a fielder's choice in the eighth inning. He's had a rough start to his first stint in the bigs, batting only .150 (9-for-60) with one homer, one steal and a 7:26 BB:K in 19 games.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Making MLB debut Friday
Burdick's contract was selected from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. Burdick will claim a spot in the Marlins' outfield after Jesus Sanchez was sent down Thursday. Burdick is starting in left field and batting seventh during Friday's matchup against the Cubs. The 25-year-old slashed .229/.344/.430 with 14 homers, 70 runs, 51 RBI and eight steals over 88 games with the Triple-A club to begin the year, and he's expected to see regular playing time for Miami over the final two months of the season.... Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Advances to Triple-A
Burdick will join Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Burdick has had some struggles making contact this season, striking out in 29.3 percent of his plate appearances for Double-A Pensacola, but he's made up for it by doing everything else at the plate. He's homered 23 times in 106 games while walking at a 16.5 percent clip, helping him to a .231/.376/.472 slash line. He'll spend a brief period at the Triple-A level to end the season and will likely open there next year.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Peyton Burdick: Set to join major-league camp
Burdick earned an invitation to the Marlins' big-league camp Monday. A third-round pick in the 2019 draft, Burdick impressed in his first taste of professional ball, hitting .308/.407/.542 over 69 games that season, adding 11 homers and seven steals. Without the canceled minor-league season last year, he could be on the cusp of the majors already, as he'll turn 24 before Opening Day, but he'll presumably need some experience in the upper minors before being seriously considered for a roster spot....
