Blevins signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Friday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Blevins was released by the Giants in April, but he'll land a minor-league deal with the Mets heading into 2021. While it's not yet clear whether the deal includes an invitation to spring training, the 37-year-old will likely have the chance to compete for a major-league roster spot next season. Blevins spent four seasons with the Mets before posting a 3.90 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 32.1 innings with Atlanta in 2019.
Blevins was released by the Giants in March, Baseball America reports.
In camp as a non-roster invitee, Blevins gave up nine earned runs in 3.2 innings this spring, which sealed his fate. The 36-year-old southpaw had a 3.90 ERA in 32.1 innings for the Braves last year, but his FIP has been north of 4.60 in each of the last two seasons.
Blevins signed a minor-league contract with San Francisco on Monday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Blevins posted a 3.90 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with a 37:16 K:BB over 32.1 frames last season with the Braves out of the bullpen, registering 10 holds and a save over that span. He'll get a chance to win a roster spot in San Francisco with a strong showing in spring training.
Blevins struck out the only batter he faced to record his first save in a 6-4 win over the Mets on Wednesday.
After using Shane Greene in the eighth inning, the Braves turned to Blevins to relieve Mark Melancon with two outs in the ninth frame and the bases loaded. Blevins struck out Michael Conforto to nail down his first save. Lefties continue to struggle with Blevins, hitting .150 against him. The 35-year-old has a 3.33 ERA in 33 appearances this season.
Blevins allowed a run on one hit and two walks over two innings of relief in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers.
The 35-year-old more typically gets used as a LOOGY -- Tuesday's outing was his longest of the year -- but Blevins hadn't pitched since July 2 and was plenty rested, and he helped save the rest of the bullpen in a 13-1 rout. He now has a 4.15 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB through 17.1 mostly low-leverage innings this season.
Blevins' contract was selected by the Braves on Saturday.
Blevins was designated for assignment Tuesday, but he'll head right back to the active roster following Jonny Venters' release. Blevins will have to improve on his 10.80 ERA over six appearances if he's to stick around on the roster this time around.
Blevins was designated for assignment by the Braves on Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Blevins was added to the 40-man roster at the end of April, but he'll head to the waiver wire after getting shelled for four runs over one inning in his last appearance April 7 against the Dodgers. Jesse Biddle (groin) was activated from the 10-day injured list and Wes Parsons was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in corresponding moves.
Blevins' contract was selected by the Braves on Sunday.
Blevins failed to break camp with the Athletics but will head straight to the Braves' big-league roster after being acquired for cash or a player to be named later Sunday. Wes Parsons was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move, with Arodys Vizcaino (shoulder) transferred to the 60-day injured list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
Blevins was acquired by the Braves on Sunday in exchange for cash or a player to be named, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Blevins was pitching at Triple-A Las Vegas this season and had compiled a 1.69 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 10.2 innings. He'll head to Atlanta to serve as depth in a struggling bullpen, though if he doesn't land on the major-league squad immediately, he has an opt-out clause in his deal for the end of May.
Blevin will be reassigned to Triple-A Las Vegas before Thursday's home opener against the Angels, Julian McWilliams of The Athletic reports.
Blevins was expected to travel with the team for last week's season-opening series in Japan but ended up not going, which may have been a sign of his standing on the roster. The veteran left-hander struggled this spring with eight runs allowed across 3.1 innings. Blevins can opt out of the minor-league deal if he doesn't make it to the majors by the end of April.
Blevins is not listed on the Athletics' roster for the season-opening series in Japan.
Blevins was expected to travel with the team to Japan -- it's currently unclear if he made the trip -- but he is not present on the team's 28-man roster of players. The 35-year-old did little to earn a roster spot this spring with eight runs allowed over three innings, and according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, he will able able to opt out of the contract if not in the majors by the end of April.
Blevins allowed two runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning during Wednesday's spring game against the Cubs.
Blevins has logged three innings of work this spring and has given up eight runs on six hits and three walks. The veteran left-hander joined Oakland on a minor-league deal in February and is coming off a poor season in which he had a 4.85 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with the Mets. According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Blevins will travel with the team for the season-opening series in Japan.
Blevins agreed to a minor-league deal with the Athletics on Monday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Blevins will earn $1.5 million if he makes the major-league roster. The 35-year-old lefty's chances of doing that are certainly hurt by his 4.85 ERA last season, though his ERA was under 3.00 in both 2016 and 2017, so he may still have something left in the tank. The veteran has held lefties to an OPS of .586 over the course of his 12-year career, so there's a specialist role available for him in Oakland if he looks good in spring training.
Blevins tossed a perfect ninth inning on his way to the save Monday against the Reds.
Blevins induced two flyballs and a groundout to end the ballgame after tossing 12 of 17 pitches for strikes. Following Monday's appearance, he's recorded six straight scoreless outings, and he owns a 4.08 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 25 strikeouts across 28.2 innings this season. Robert Gsellman recorded 1.1 scoreless frames before Blevins came in for the ninth inning. This is a very murky closer situation.
Blevins (personal) returned from the bereavement list Monday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Blevins will return to the bullpen after a short stint on the bereavement list. He'll be available for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Phillies.
Blevins (personal) is expected to come off the bereavement list Monday, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.
Blevins left the team Friday, and after missing the Mets' three-game series against the Rays, he'll return to the bullpen for the Monday's doubleheader versus Philadelphia. He's posted a 4.79 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 18 strikeouts through 20.2 innings in 2018.
Blevins was placed on the bereavement list Friday.
Players on the bereavement list must ,miss between three and seven games, so Blevins will return as early as Monday or as late as next Friday. Paul Sewald was called up to take his place in the bullpen.
Blevins gave up two runs on a pair of solo home runs in two innings while striking out three against the Dodgers on Sunday.
This was the definition of an emergency starter, as Blevins made his first career start in his 533rd career game after Jason Vargas (calf), who was scheduled to start Sunday, was unexpectedly placed on the disabled list late on Saturday, forcing the Mets into a bullpen game. Blevins figures to return to the bullpen immediately.
Blevins will make his first career start Sunday against the Dodgers, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic New York reports.
The 34-year-old's first start will come in his 533rd career game. Blevins hasn't gotten more than five outs in any appearance this season and thus is highly unlikely to go particularly deep today. He'll presumably just be the Mets' opener before turning it over to the rest of the bullpen.
Blevins returned from paternity leave Friday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Blevins had been out since Tuesday for the birth of his child. He'll return to his role as the primary left-hander in the Mets' bullpen. A corresponding move has not yet been announced.
