Spurs' Devin Vassell: Solid shooting in preseason loss
Vassell registered 12 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block across 18 minutes in Thursday's 123-116 preseason loss to the Hawks.
Vassell was efficient during his limited playing time, shooting 50 percent from both the field and three-point range while making both free-throw attempts. He also contributed defensively with a steal and a block. The veteran wing helped San Antonio build a commanding first-half advantage before the starters rested, and his combination of perimeter shooting and two-way production should remain an important part of the Spurs' rotation. Unless something dramatic happens in the Spurs' camp over the next two weeks, Vassell should open the 2026-27 regular season as San Antonio's starting small forward.

Spurs' Devin Vassell: Working to expand offensive game
Vassell has been working on getting downhill and finishing through contact ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, Cory Mose of KVUE News reports Saturday.
Vassell scored a career-high 53.4 percent of his points from beyond the arc in 2025-26, averaging 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.9 steals across 30.5 minutes per game in 67 regular-season appearances (65 starts). Just 42.8 percent of Vassell's shot attempts came from two-point range, marking a career low after he finished above 50.2 percent in each of his previous five seasons. He may look to increase his two-point volume as he continues playing a sizable role for a San Antonio squad aiming to get back to the NBA Finals.

Vassell produced 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt), seven rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals in 39 minutes during Saturday's 94-90 loss to New York in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Vassell turned in an efficient performance in Saturday's season-ending loss and finished as San Antonio's fourth-leading scorer. The 25-year-old swingman also supplied at least three combined steals-plus-blocks for the ninth time across 23 playoff appearances. Vassell started 65 of his 67 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, averaging 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.9 steals across 30.5 minutes per showing.

Vassell continues to play well on both ends of the floor, providing solid yet modest production. In 14 playoff appearances over the past month, he has averaged 12.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.5 three-pointers. Having lost both games at home, San Antonio will now head to New York for Games 3 and 4 looking to extend the series beyond four games.
