The Cardinals nearly lost one of the last tangible reminders of Pat Tillman's football career. But before a renovation project could claim Tillman's locker, the organization managed to intervene and save the shrine to the late player.

Workers were in the process of taking apart the locker room at the Cards' Tempe, Ariz., practice facility when Jim Omohundro, the team's broadcast and new media manager, managed to step in and stop them from taking down Tillman's locker.

Per the Cardinals' team site, Omohundro spotted a story on the site showing a picture of the lockers being taken apart by workers.

"I thought, 'Someone is going to want that locker,'" Omohundro said. "Whether it was us, or the Hall of Fame or the [Tillman] Foundation. Someone. I kept it in the back of my mind."

So he rushed back, caught up with the workers and asked them to pull Tillman's locker out and preserve it.

"I was like, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa. Can we carefully cut this one out and set it aside?'" Omohundro said. "I explained it was Pat Tillman's locker."

So the workers pulled it out and now the Cardinals get to hang on to a piece of history and another reminder of Tillman's legacy.

The timing is a perfect reminder too: The anniversary of Tillman's death (April 22, 2004) and the run benefiting his foundation (April 25, 2015) are coming up soon.
