Frank Gore says several NFL teams have reached out to express interest in recent weeks
Despite the interest, Gore said he is enjoying his time away from football

Frank Gore is one of two future Hall of Fame running backs who are not currently on an NFL roster. The other running back is Adrian Peterson, who is currently fifth on the league's career rushing list. Gore, who last season became the third player in league history to reach 16,000 career rushing yards and sits at No. 3 on the all-time list, has remained unsigned after spending last season with the Jets.
Gore recently revealed that several NFL teams have called him to express interest in recent weeks. Gore has instead chosen to remain unsigned while spending time with his children. Along with being a coach for his two youngest children, Gore visits his sons Ricardo Hamilton, who is a freshman cornerback at Wisconsin, and Frank Gore Jr., a running back for Southern Mississippi.
"I still can play," Gore said during an interview with Sports Illustrated's Alex Prewitt. "It's on me, man. I'm enjoying my kids."
The 38-year-old Gore has inspired Frank Jr. to follow in his footsteps as a running back. Starting in high school, Frank Jr. would start getting up with his dad at 6 a.m. to work out with fellow NFL running backs that included LeSean McCoy and Devin Singletary. Frank Sr. noticed his son's progress upon watching a game from the stands in 2018, the first time he saw Frank Jr. play in-person since he was in pee wee football.
"We're very similar; I'm just bigger," Frank Sr. said of his son who has rushed for 982 yards on 176 carries in his first 13 games for the Golden Eagles. "He's got very great feet, great eyes."
While he has not officially retired, it does not appear that Gore is anxious to sign with an NFL team anytime soon. If he has already played his final snap, Gore has carved out a career that will eventually be immortalized in Canton, Ohio. A national champion at the University of Miami, Gore was a five-time Pro Bowler during his decade with the 49ers. A member of the NFL's All-2010s Team, Gore played an integral role in the 49ers' run to an NFC title in 2012.
