Maybe the Chiefs would have been better off if Jamaal Charles had held out of training camp, at least that seems to be the case for defensive back Sanders Commings.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced that Commings underwent surgery on his ankle on Thursday, one day after injuring it in practice.
So how did Commings break his ankle? Let's let Adam Teicher describe it. The ESPN reporter was at Kansas City's practice on Wednesday.

Thanks for the concise tweets Adam.
Commings, a 2013 fifth-round pick, has had trouble staying healthy in his short time with the team. Besides the broken ankle, the 24-year-old also suffered an injury last preseason when he broke his collarbone during training camp.
As for Charles, I'm guessing there's no bonus in his contract for breaking ankles, at least not ankles belonging to players on his own team.
