The road was not kind to the San Francisco 49ers in 2018, when they lost all eight of their games away from home. The club made a dramatic turnaround the following season, going 7-1, and is 17-6 on the road since that dismal campaign. San Francisco (8-6) will attempt to improve upon its 5-2 road record this season when it visits the AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans on Thursday Night Football.

Kickoff from Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET. San Francisco is a three-point favorite in the latest 49ers vs. Titans odds at Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total points scored is 45. Why the 49ers can cover

After being limited to eight games last season due to injuries, George Kittle again is proving to be one of the top tight ends in the NFL in 2021. Despite having missed three contests earlier this year with a calf injury, the 28-year-old is 150 receiving yards away from reaching 1,000 for the third time in four campaigns. Kittle leads the 49ers with 63 receptions and six touchdown catches, half of which have come over his last three games.

In addition to TDs, Kittle has racked up the yards in that span, gaining 425 on 33 receptions. He fell seven yards shy of a third straight 100-yard performance in Sunday's 31-13 triumph over Atlanta, hauling in all six passes that were thrown his way. Kittle has amassed 4,429 receiving yards, the third-most by a tight end over his first five seasons in NFL history.

Why the Titans can cover

Despite having lost 2020 NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry to a fractured foot after eight games, Tennessee ranks fourth in the league in rushing with an average of 142.3 yards per contest. The Titans have outgained their opponents on the ground in their last four outings, eclipsing the 200-yard mark twice in that span. D'Onta Foreman has begun to find his groove while filling in for Henry, posting 100-yard performances in two of his last three contests.

Tennessee has been exceptional defending against the run this season, as it is second in the NFL (86.9 yards). In its last two games, the club limited Jacksonville to eight rushing yards and held Pittsburgh to 35. The Titans surrendered a total of 19 points in those contests after giving up 21 or more in each of their previous three outings.
