With Johnny Manziel's elbow hurting, Browns sign QB Pat Devlin
Devlin has been in the NFL for four entirely uneventful seasons.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is nursing an injured elbow that may keep him out for the rest of the preseason, and with third-string QB Connor Shaw already dealing with a thumb injury that may end his year, the Browns will turn to the free agent market for somebody to back up Josh McCown.
The Browns have signed former Dolphins and Vikings quarterback Pat Devlin. Devlin went undrafted out of Delaware in 2011 before signing with the Dolphins as a rookie free agent. He's yet to throw a pass in a regular season NFL game in four seasons.
He started his college career at Penn State, where he was a backup for two years before transferring to Delaware. In all, he completed just over 65 percent of his passes in college, for 6,155 yards, 42 touchdowns and 12 picks.
Devlin's preseason performances have been pretty uninspiring throughout his career thus far. He's completed 79 of 134 passes (59.0 percent) for 780 yards (5.82 per attempt), four touchdowns and four interceptions. McCown wasn't in any danger of losing his starting job to Manziel or Shaw, and Devlin almost certainly won't be the guy to take it away, either.
