  • Texans' Sheldon Rankins: Questionable Sunday vs. Jets

Rankins (elbow) was a limited participant in Friday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets. Rankins was able to play in last Sunday's game against the Broncos and logged 40 defensive snaps despite logging two DNPs leading up to the contest. He started out this week as a limited participant Wednesday before not participating in Thursday's practice. His limited participation Friday is a good sign that Rankins be able to play Sunday, but if he has a setback, Khalil Davis and Kurt Hinish would figure to see an increased snap count at defensive tackle alongside starter Maliek Collins.

  • Texans' Sheldon Rankins: Could be out again Week 9

Rankins (knee) is considered questionable to play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The 29-year-old continued to deal with the issue as a limited participant throughout all three practices for Houston in Week 9, leaving his status up in the air against Tampa Bay. Rankins has accumulated 17 tackles, including a sack, through six games this season, and should he remain sidelined, then Khalil Davis, Kurt Hinish and Hassan Ridgeway could all be in line for increased playing time at defensive tackle.

While there's currently no specific date set for his return, an injury like this usually takes players up to six weeks to fully recover from. • Saints' Sheldon Rankins: Could be out for the season

Rankins (ankle) is in danger of missing the rest of the season, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Rankins was forced out of Sunday's 48-46 loss to the 49ers with a right ankle injury, and he's now weighing his options to figure out if he'll be able to play again in 2019. With defensive end Marcus Davenport expected to require season-ending foot surgery, the Saints suddenly appear thin along the defensive line, an area that's been a strength for them for most of the season. The only good news is that Rankins' injury isn't to the same leg in which he suffered a torn Achilles in January. The 2016 first-round pick has 16 sacks in 51 regular-season games, including two in 10 appearances during the current campaign.

Barring a setback in warmups, Rankins (Achilles) is expected to play in Sunday night's game against Dallas, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Rankins (Achilles) will sit out Sunday's game versus the Rams, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Rankins is the projected starter so it will still hurt having him out, but Edwards and Onyemata will return to rotate in at defensive tackle for the grudge match.
