  • Commanders' Nick Allegretti: Tracking toward starting role

    Allegretti (elbow) appears in line for a starting role with the Commanders after signing as a free agent in the offseason, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports. The veteran guard started the Super Bowl for Kansas City with Joe Thuney out and suffered a UCL tear in that contest. However, Allegretti then signed a three-year, $16 million deal with Washington in March after playing in 74 games (13 starts) in five seasons with the Chiefs.

    Allegretti (elbow) agreed to terms on a deal with Washington on Monday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Allegretti is getting a change of scenery, as he spent his first five seasons in Kansas City. The 27-year-old suffered a UCL tear in his elbow during the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory over the 49ers. There has been no word if that will impact his availability for training camp.

  • Chiefs' Nick Allegretti: Suffers UCL tear

    Allegretti suffered a torn UCL in his elbow during Kansas City's Super Bowl victory Sunday against the 49ers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Allegretti started at left guard with Joe Thuney (pectoral) out and ended up suffering a serious injury in the second quarter, but he managed to play through it. Allegretti will likely require surgery and will look to be healthy for the start of next season.
