  • Cardinals' Chris Hubert: Back in AZ

Hubert signed with the Cardinals on Tuesday, Mike Jurecki of AZCentral.com reports.

Hubert rejoins the Cardinals after being released by the team less than a month ago. He originally signed a reserve/future contract with the team and spent time on the practice squad. With 13 active receivers on the current roster, Hubert will likely have to excel at special teams if he hopes to stick around.

Hubert was released by the Cardinals on Wednesday, Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com reports.

  • Cardinals' Chris Hubert: Inks future contract with Cards

Hubert has signed a reserve/future contract with the Cardinals.

Hubert flashed with three receptions for 72 yards and one touchdown in Week 3 of the preseason, but it wasn't enough to land a spot on the Cardinals' 53-man roster in advance of the regular season. Called upon in the aftermath of John Brown's midseason diagnosis of a sickle-cell trait, Hubert nonetheless didn't make an appearance in three opportunities before he was released and returned to the practice squad. In addition to his progress through the offseason program, Hubert's professional odds may also hinge on alterations made to the receiving corps, particularly Larry Fitzgerald's decision on his NFL future.

  • Cardinals' Chris Hubert: Promoted to 53-man roster

The Cardinals promoted Hubert from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Wednesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Resigned to the practice squad only Tuesday, Hubert appears to have bested notable tryout Aaron Dobson for the roster spot available following Jaron Brown's (knee) placement on injured reserve. Hubert fared well in the preseason, recording five receptions for 96 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown. Although the Cardinals currently have Michael Floyd (hamstring) and John Brown (leg) partly hobbled by injury, Hubert will still be hard-pressed to make an impact from the bottom of the depth chart.

  • Cardinals' Chris Hubert: Signs with Cards practice squad

Hubert was signed to the Cardinals' practice squad Sunday, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official sit reports.

After breaking out with a 43-yard touchdown in the third preseason contest, Hubert was unable to haul in either of his targets in the fourth and final outing. Uneven play was likely his undoing in the trek for a spot on the 53-man roster, but only five wide receivers currently occupy spots on it. As a result, an injury to one of the stalwarts could bump Hubert or Brittan Golden to the main corps.

  • Cardinals' Chris Hubert: Records touchdown grab Sunday

Hubert recorded three receptions (on four targets) for 72 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's preseason defeat at Houston.

With Larry Fitzgerald (knee) and John Brown (concussion) sidelined, Hubert received his first snap early in the second quarter, which says everything about his preseason to date. Hubert's first catch was a 21-yard connection with Drew Stanton, and he later reached the end zone on a 43-yard bomb from Matt Barkley. Overall, Hubert has corralled five passes for 96 yards and a touchdown this exhibition season, as he makes a serious run at the sixth wideout spot in Arizona (if in fact the Cardinals opt to keep six receivers). At this point, he may garner enough interest on the free-agent market that a team lacking in depth takes a chance on the undrafted free agent.
