  • Cowboys' Michael Gallup: Working on agility

Gallup (knee) was spotted running and cutting on the side at Monday's practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Due to his status on the active/PUP list, Gallup hasn't been cleared to take part in practice, instead focusing on agility drills as he draws closer to returning from the torn ACL he sustained in his left knee Week 17 of last season. He told Jon Machota of The Athletic in late July that he isn't optimistic he'll be healthy by Week 1 this year, noting, "We got a little ways to go. It's gotta get a little bit stronger." With no clarity yet on Gallup's timetable to return and James Washington sidelined 6-to-10 weeks due to a broken foot suffered last Monday, rookie Jalen Tolbert and Noah Brown will operate as the next wide receivers up behind unquestioned No. 1 CeeDee Lamb.

  • Cowboys' Michael Gallup: Week 1 return unlikely

Gallup (knee) acknowledged Thursday that at this time he doesn't view being ready to play Week 1 as a realistic possibility, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

With that in mind, the wideout -- who is on the active/PUP list as he bounces back from ACL surgery -- doesn't have a precise timetable for his return to game action. "We got a little ways to go," Gallup noted Thursday. As long as he's unavailable, look for Jalen Tolbert and James Washington to see added reps behind Dallas' top healthy wideout CeeDee Lamb.

  • Cowboys' Michael Gallup: Lands on PUP list

The Cowboys placed Gallup (knee) on the active/PUP list Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Gallup's status for Week 1 is still in question, so it's not much of a surprise to see him begin training camp on the PUP list, which means he's unable to practice. The 26-year-old wideout can come off the PUP list at any point in training camp if deemed healthy, though the Cowboys seem unlikely to rush him back on the field at less than 100 percent after having recently signed him to a five-year extension. Jalen Tolbert, James Washington (foot) and Noah Brown (hamstring) could handle added reps behind CeeDee Lamb as long as Gallup remains sidelined.

  • Cowboys' Michael Gallup: On track in rehab process

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that Gallup (knee) "has not missed a target yet" and is now in the "fourth quarter" of his rehab process, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Dallas still haven't commented on a timeline for Gallup's return to the field, but everything coming from the team has been optimistic since this spring. The timing of the injury nonetheless presents a challenge for Gallup being available for Week 1, as he was forced to wait until February to undergo surgery for a torn ACL. He opens training camp on the active/PUP list along with the other players that aren't ready to practice, but that doesn't mean Gallup will remain there for the regular season, which would rule him out for the first six weeks. The Cowboys seemingly think he has a chance to contribute early in the season, even if it isn't in Weeks 1 or 2.
