  • Rams' Byron Young: Stellar rookie campaign

    Young logged 61 tackles (42 solo), 8.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery during the 2023 regular season over 17 games played. A third-round pick out of Tennessee, the rookie outside linebacker stepped in and immediately produced at an elite level as a starter, leading all rookie edge rushers in sacks and establishing himself as one the anchors for the Rams at linebacker alongside Ernest Jones. Young may have a new counterpart on the outside, as Michael Hoecht is a restricted free agent, and the rest of the group behind them are unproven rookies and UDFAs, but Young looks like a steal after one season in Los Angeles.

  • Rams' Byron Young: Gets sack in loss

    Young had two solo tackles, including one sack, in Sunday's 37-31 overtime loss to the Ravens. Young broke his three-game dry spell when he got to Lamar Jackson late in the fourth quarter for a six-yard loss. Young has six sacks on the year and is tied with Aaron Donald for the most sacks on the team. The third-round rookie out of Tennesse has played in at least 50 defensive snaps in 10 of his last 11 games and has 52 tackles over 13 games this year.

The starting outside linebacker is trending in the right direction as the Rams' Week 14 matchup with the Ravens approaches. Young has 50 tackles, including five sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2023.

    Young likely secured a starting spot for the upcoming campaign, Jordan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports. Young was drafted by the Rams in the third round of this year's draft and will likely serve as a starter for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Seahawks. In two years at Tennessee, the 25-year-old logged 83 tackles (42 solo), 12.5 sacks and an interception in 24 games.

    Young (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Raiders on Friday, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. Young will begin camp on the sideline as he nurses an undisclosed injury, but he'll be eligible to return to practice at any point in the coming weeks. Las Vegas kicks off its preseason with a matchup at home with San Francisco on Aug. 13.

Not to be confused with the notable Tennessee edge rusher of the same name in the 2023 Draft, this Byron Young is a defensive tackle from Alabama. Young is no more than average as an athlete at 6-foot-3, 294 pounds, but he was a leading contributor on a strong Alabama run defense.
