  • Bengals' Barrett Carter: Surpasses 100 tackles in 2025

Carter notched 106 tackles (53 solo) and four passes defensed, including one interception, across 17 regular-season appearances in 2025. Carter compiled impressive production for a rookie fourth-round pick, though the actual quality of his play left something to be desired. Though Carter earned an every-down role in defense as a rookie, it won't be surprising if he has to compete this offseason to retain a starting gig, unless he manages to take a substantial step forward in his development.

  • Bengals' Barrett Carter: Has dud game vs. Ravens

Carter recorded three tackles (two solo) during Sunday's 24-0 loss versus Baltimore. Carter's tackle total in Week 15 was his lowest since Week 2, when he played zero defensive snaps versus Jacksonville. Granted, his 40 defensive snaps Sunday were the fewest he played since Week 5 versus the Lions (33). He'll look to bounce back in a Week 16 matchup at Miami.

Carter was on the field for every defensive snap for the third straight week, reaching at least eight stops in each of those contests. The rookie has made the most of his opportunities since supplanting Logan Wilson for the starting role at middle linebacker, registering 30 total tackles (20 solo) over the last three games.

  • Bengals' Barrett Carter: Starting over Logan Wilson

Carter got the start over Logan Wilson and logged 10 tackles in the loss to the Packers on Sunday, Charlie's Chalkboard reports. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor's comments suggested this is a permanent change. "Barrett has been an ascending player," Taylor said. "It was time to see what he can do in a full-time role. We've given him bits and pieces over time. It was time to throw him into the fire and go."

  • Bengals' Barrett Carter: Lands with Cincinnati

The Bengals selected Carter in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 119th overall. An inside linebacker prospect out of Clemson, Carter was a three-year starter in some excellent Tigers defenses. He can read, react and fire into the backfield with at least 9.5 tackles for loss in each of his years as a starter. Carter isn't a standout athlete but has plenty of high-level experience and can be a contributor in the Bengals' linebacking corps, especially as an insurance policy pending what happens with Germaine Pratt as he enters the final year of his deal.
