• Broncos' Cody Schrader: Elevated for AFC West tilt

  Rotowire Oct 31, 2026

The Broncos elevated Schrader from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. The Broncos needed more depth in the backfield after placing RJ Harvey (knee) on injured reserve Saturday. It's the first time Schrader has been promoted to the active roster this season, and he'll operate as the Broncos' RB3 behind J.K. Dobbins and rookie Jonah Coleman for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Schrader has appeared in two regular-season games -- both with the Rams -- since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in May of 2024.

• Cody Schrader: Signed to Denver's practice squad

  Rotowire Sep 1, 2026

Schrader signed with the Broncos' practice squad Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. Schrader put together a solid preseason with the Broncos, finishing with 24 carries for 74 yards and nine catches on as many targets for 101 yards and a touchdown across three games. It wasn't quite enough for him to crack the team's 53-man roster, but he impressed the coaching staff enough to be invited to stay in Denver on the practice squad.

• Broncos' Cody Schrader: Inks future deal with Denver

  Rotowire Jan 26, 2026

The Broncos signed Schrader to a reserve/future contract Monday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. A future deal means Schrader will be on Denver's 90-man roster at the start of the offseason, which will allow him to participate in OTAs and minicamp. He was cut by the Rams at the end of traiing camp in late August and had stints with the Jaguars and Texans before catching on with the Broncos in December.

• Cody Schrader: Back with Denver practice squad

  Rotowire Dec 27, 2025

The Broncos signed Schrader to the practice squad Saturday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. The Broncos claimed Schrader on Dec. 15 before waiving him Thursday. The running back has yet to play in a game for the team, but he will wait for a potential elevation opportunity. With RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie all healthy and active, Schrader is not a likely candidate for elevation to the active roster next week.

• Cody Schrader: Let go by Jacksonville

  Rotowire Oct 6, 2025

Schrader was waived by the Jaguars on Monday. Schrader will be placed on waivers after appearing in one contest with the Jaguars this year, failing to record any stats over four snaps on special teams in Week 1 versus Houston. If the running back clears waivers, he'll likely have to settle for a practice-squad spot at his next destination.

• Jaguars' Cody Schrader: Catches on with Jags' active roster

  Rotowire Sep 9, 2025

The Jaguars signed Schrader off the Rams' practice squad to the active roster Tuesday. The move corresponds with the Jaguars trading Tank Bigsby to the Eagles on Monday in exchange for 2026 fifth- and sixth-round draft picks. Schrader signed with the Rams' practice squad after failing to make the 53-man roster out of training camp, but he was elevated to the active roster for their Week 1 win over the Texans, when he logged four snaps on special teams without showing up on the box score otherwise. Schrader will likely be limited to a special-teams role in Jacksonville while serving as a depth backfield option behind Travis Etienne, Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen.

• Cody Schrader: Fails to make 53-man roster

  Rotowire Aug 26, 2025

Schrader was waived by the Rams on Tuesday. The second-year running back entered training camp competing for a depth spot in the Rams' backfield. He logged 140 total yards of offense through the first two preseason games but ended on a whimper in the Rams' final exhibition contest against the Rams on Saturday, when he turned nine carries into just 13 yards while failing to log a catch. The Rams have opted to go with three running backs on the main roster in Blake Corum, Jarquez Hunter and starter Kyren Williams, but Schrader could stay in Los Angeles as a member of the Rams' practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.

• Rams' Cody Schrader: Struggles in final showcase

  Rotowire Aug 24, 2025

Schrader rushed nine times for 13 yards and returned one kick for 29 yards during Saturday's 19-17 preseason loss to the Browns. Schrader's momentum came to a halt with a disastrous outing against the Browns. After starting the preseason hot with 140 total yards on offense in his first two appearances, he averaged a paltry 1.4 YPC against Cleveland and failed to record a target for the first time all preseason. Saturday's performance will leave the second-year running back from Missouri in a precarious position with final roster cuts looming soon, as Kyren Williams and Blake Corum are locks to make the team and fourth-round pick Jarquez Hunter (who started the preseason finale for the Rams) is almost certain to join them.

• Rams' Cody Schrader: Leads team in rushing

  Rotowire Aug 10, 2025

Schrader rushed five times for 59 yards and caught his only target for nine yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 31-21 preseason victory over the Cowboys. He also had a 22-yard kick return. The second-year back's performance on Saturday was a far cry from his first preseason stint in 2024 with the 49ers, in which he managed just 21 yards on 15 carries over two contests. Schrader was untouched on his nine-yard touchdown reception, and he broke multiple tackles during a game-high 25-yard rush in the fourth quarter. Despite the strong showing, Schrader faces an uphill battle to claim a roster spot with Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and fourth-round rookie Jarquez Hunter all likely to make the 53-man roster, and Ronnie Rivers (ribs) and Jordan Waters also battling to make the team.

• Rams' Cody Schrader: Inactive for Week 2

  Rotowire Sep 15, 2024

Schrader (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Arizona, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports. Schrader will be a healthy inactive for a second straight week as the Rams roll with Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers as the three running backs for Sunday's game. Schrader's next chance to suit up will come Week 3 against the 49ers on Sept. 22.

• Rams' Cody Schrader: Inactive Sunday

  Rotowire Sep 8, 2024

Schrader (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday versus the Lions, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports. Schrader joined the Rams on Aug. 28 after being waived by the 49ers, so it's not a major surprise that he'll be unavailable Sunday. The running back will operate as an extreme depth option behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in the backfield with Los Angeles this season, likely limiting his chances of being active on game day.

• Cody Schrader: Dropped by San Fran

  Rotowire Aug 27, 2024

Schrader was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday. Schrader joined San Francisco in April as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri, where he led the SEC in rushing as a sixth-year senior in 2023. However, the 5-foot-9 running back failed to catch on this preseason. Schrader will now be subject to waivers and, if he goes unclaimed, he could be a candidate to rejoin the 49ers via the practice squad. In his absence, Jordan Mason, Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor will serve as the backups behind fantasy star Christian McCaffrey (calf).

• 49ers' Cody Schrader: Slow start to exhibition schedule

  Rotowire Aug 19, 2024

Schrader gained 15 yards on seven carries and added one reception (on three targets) for five yards in Sunday's preseason win over the Saints. Schrader struggled to find running room for the second exhibition game in a row, finishing both contests with a per-carry average well below 3.0 yards. The undrafted rookie still has some work to do in terms of earning a roster spot following the upcoming preseason finale against the Raiders.

• Cody Schrader: Intends to sign with San Francisco

  Rotowire Apr 27, 2024

Schrader is slated to sign with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports. Schrader had a mid-to-late-round draft grade from most analysts but somewhat surprisingly wasn't selected Saturday. Already 24 years old, Schrader walked on at Missouri after four years at Truman State. He was a bellcow back for the Tigers from 2022-23, amassing 446-2,372-23 on the ground and 41 catches for 328 scoreless yards. He led the SEC in rushing as a sixth-year senior last season. Schrader joins a backfield that includes Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason, fourth-round rookie Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor.
