Jets' Xavier Gipson: No targets again
Gipson wasn't targeted in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Titans. He had two kickoff returns for 57 yards and three punt returns for 35 yards.
Gipson's snap share on offense plummeted from 59 to 11 percent, corresponding with an increase from 18 to 65 percent for Mike Williams. As long as Williams, Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard are healthy, those three are poised to operate in the majority of three-receiver sets, leaving Gipson relegated primarily to a special teams role.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Blanked on Monday
Gipson wasn't targeted in Monday's 32-19 loss to the 49ers, but he had three kickoff returns for 77 yards and a four-yard punt return.
Gipson was the intended receiver of a Tyrod Taylor pass on a two-point conversion in the final minute, but that play doesn't go down in the books as an official target. The slot receiver actually played 30 snaps on offense compared to just nine for Mike Williams and one for Malachi Corley. Once Williams is up to speed, he'll likely join Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard in three-receiver sets, but Gipson's usage suggests the second-year pro is capable of providing some value on offense early in the season, despite Monday's ineffectual season debut.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Back on practice field
Gipson (leg) returned to practice Tuesday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
Gipson had been sidelined since the late July with an undisclosed leg injury, making his return a notable development for the Jets' offense. In addition to profiling as New York's top return man, especially since the surprise retirement of Tarik Cohen, Gipson figures to rotate alongside Allen Lazard and Malachi Corley in the No. 3 wide receiver role behind Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams (knee), the latter of whom remains on the active/PUP list.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Expected to miss a few weeks
Coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Gipson (leg) suffered an injury at practice Thursday and is expected to miss a week or two, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
Gipson walked off the practice field with a notable limp, per Brian Costello of the New York Post, but the specifics of his leg injury remain undisclosed. As a rookie last season, Gipson suited up for all 17 games and worked as the Jets' primary kick and punt returner, but he now faces competition from Tarik Cohen and Isaiah Davis.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Competition as primary returner
Gipson is expected to have competition as New York's primary return specialist heading into the 2024 season, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
Gipson operated as the Jets' kick returner and punt returner for the entirety of the 2023 season, but with the team signing running back Tarik Cohen on Wednesday, Gipson may not be a shoo-in for the role again in 2024. Head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Gipson will get "first dibs," but the returning job is an "open competition."

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Finishes first year with 21 catches
Gispon caught one of five targets for four yards in Sunday's 17-3 win over the Patriots. He finishes the season with 21 catches for 229 yards on 38 targets.
Gipson didn't score a receiving touchdown in his rookie season, but he posted a rushing score and a punt return touchdown. He held down the punt and kick returner roles for the entire season -- posting 319 punt return yards and 511 kickoff return yards -- and saw more involvement on offense in the second half of the campaign. The 5-foot-9 Gipson likely profiles as more of a depth contributor than a consistent starter at wide receiver, but a spot on the 53-man roster will be his to lose next season.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Posts 153 all-purpose yards in loss
Gipson secured four of seven targets for 33 yards, rushed once for eight yards, ran back three kickoffs for 82 yards and returned two punts for 30 yards in the Jets' 37-20 loss to the Browns on Thursday night.
Gipson had a particularly busy night in defeat, with both his reception and receiving yardage totals serving as the second highest of his young career. The rookie's target tally also qualified as a new high-water mark, and he's now logged one rush attempt in four of his last five games. Gipson could be a candidate for extended playing time in the Week 18 road finale against the Patriots on Jan. 7, and it's possible he'll have Zach Wilson (concussion) back under center for that contest.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: One catch, one carry in win
Gipson caught one of two targets for one yard and added a 16-yard run in Sunday's 30-28 win over the Commanders.
Gipson also returned three kickoffs for 82 yards and added a nine-yard punt return. The undrafted rookie out of Stephen F. Austin has worked as a slot receiver and gadget player on offense in the second half of the season while maintaining his role as the return man on special teams. Gipson has logged multiple touches in each of the last five games, but he's finished with more than three touches only once this season.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Six targets in Week 15 loss
Gipson caught two of six targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 30-0 loss to the Dolphins.
Gipson tied Garrett Wilson for the team lead in receiving yards and came one target shy of Tyler Conklin's team-leading total as the entire Jets offense struggled. After posting a career-high 77 receiving yards in Week 13 and scoring his first offensive touchdown in Week 14, Gipson maintained a prominent role against the Dolphins despite his lack of success on the stat sheet, which bodes well for his potential involvement in Week 16 against the Commanders. It remains to be seen whether Zach Wilson -- who left Sunday's loss in the first half with a head injury -- or Trevor Siemian will be throwing to Gipson versus Washington.
