Top Lirim Hajrullahu News

  • Lirim Hajrullahu: Waived by Dallas

The Cowboys waived Hajrullahu on Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Hajrullahu was splitting time equally with Brett Maher, but the former appears to have lost the job after being let go. As a rookie last season, Hajrullahu appeared in four games -- three with Carolina and one with Dallas -- and connected on 4-of-5 field goals and all eight of his extra-point tries.

  • Cowboys' Lirim Hajrullahu: No leader in kicking battle

Hajrullahu and Brett Maher will continue to get equal opportunities in camp as neither one has pulled ahead in the race to win the kicking job for the Cowboys, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Maher has some experience with Dallas, but it was under a different coaching staff, while Hajrullahu played one game for the Cowboys last season and went 5-for-5 on extra points without getting a field-goal attempt against the Falcons in Week 10. Unless one of them starts to impress, however, this battle may not be decided until after the final preseason contest -- and may even be won by a different kicker entirely, depending on who gets cut by other teams.

  • Cowboys' Lirim Hajrullahu: To compete for kicking job

The Cowboys have signed Hajrullahu, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Hajrullahu, who suited up for one game with Dallas and three with Carolina last season, combined for four field goals (on five attempts) and eight successful extra-point tries in that span. The 32-year-old is thus slated to compete with undrafted rookie Jonathan Garibay for the Cowboys' top kicking job. While Hajrullahu's NFL regular-season experience is limited to the action he saw in 2021, he did log time as a pro in the CFL from 2014 through 2019.

  • Panthers' Lirim Hajrullahu: Gets cut Wednesday

The Panthers waived Hajrullahu on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Hajrullahu spent time with the Cowboys and Panthers last year, appearing in a total of four contests. He closed the season as Carolina's kicker, appearing in its final three games after Zane Gonzalez was sidelined with a quadriceps injury. Hajrullahu connected on four of five field-goal attempts and made all eight of his extra-point tries for Carolina.

  • Panthers' Lirim Hajrullahu: Perfect to close campaign

Hajrullahu made his only field-goal attempt as well as both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Buccaneers.

Hajrullahu converted from 35 yards on his lone field goal and turned in a flawless performance after missing a kick in Week 17. In three games with the Panthers to finish the season, Hajrullahu made four of five field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries, totaling 15 points. The 31-year-old also made all five of his kicks, exclusively PATs, in an appearance for the Cowboys earlier in the campaign. Signed through 2022, Hajrullahu figures to stick with Carolina until training camp, when he could have to compete for the team's starting kicking job.

  • Panthers' Lirim Hajrullahu: Misses kick Sunday

Hajrullahu missed one of his two field-goal attempts but made his only extra-point try in Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Saints.

Hajrullahu converted from 32 yards on Carolina's opening drive, but he sent a 47-yarder wide right to begin the fourth quarter, missing a chance to put the Panthers ahead. Although he made his only other kick, Hajrullahu will strive to eliminate mistakes in Week 18's finale versus the Buccaneers.

  • Panthers' Lirim Hajrullahu: Perfect in team debut

Hajrullahu made both of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Buccaneers.

Hajrullahu was signed last week in the wake of Zane Gonzalez (quadriceps) getting injured. In his first action as a Panther, Hajrullahu did all that was required of him, converting from 24 and 29 yards. Having scored all of Carolina's points Sunday, Hajrullahu will hope for a better offensive performance and thus more opportunities in Week 17 versus the Saints.

  • Panthers' Lirim Hajrullahu: Taking over as Carolina's kicker

The Panthers signed Hajrullahu off Washington's practice squad Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

He'll step in as a replacement for Zane Gonzalez, who is expected to be placed on injured reserve in the coming days after straining his quadriceps while warming up prior to Sunday's loss to the Bills. The 31-year-old Hajrullahu made his NFL debut back in Week 10 with Dallas, knocking down all five of his extra-point attempts in the Cowboys' 43-3 win over the Falcons. He was bumped off Dallas' roster thereafter when Greg Zuerlein was cleared to return from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Hajrullahu signed with Washington's practice squad Saturday.

  • Lirim Hajrullahu: Released from practice squad

The Cowboys released Hajrullahu from their practice squad Tuesday.

Hajrullahu made his NFL debut in Week 11 while Greg Zuerlein was sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols. The 31-year-old didn't get a field-goal attempt, but he connected on all five of his extra points. Now that Zuerlein has cleared protocols, Hajrullahu's services are no longer needed.

  • Lirim Hajrullahu: Moved back to practice squad

Hajrullahu reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Hajrullahu made his NFL debut Sunday in place of Greg Zuerlein (COVID-19) and made all five of his extra point attempts. If Zuerlein were to be inactive for Week 11, Hajrullahu will likely be called upon again.

  • Cowboys' Lirim Hajrullahu: Perfect in NFL debut

Hajrullahu didn't get a field-goal attempt but connected on all five of his extra points in Sunday's win over the Falcons.

Making his NFL debut in place of Greg Zuerlein (COVID-19), Hajrullahu looked good despite a lack of opportunities from long range. He also recorded touchbacks on all six of his kickoffs in the blowout win, and while the 31-year-old will probably be let go once Zuerlein clears the league's protocols, Hajrullahu could have put himself on the short list of possible options the next time an NFL club needs a kicker.
