Ellis will miss the 2023 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team. He is in the same spot now as he was this time last year where he reached a settlement with Miami, which allowed him to rejoin the team in October on the practice squad.

Ellis will revert to IR upon clearing waivers and potentially miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign. However, if he reaches an injury settlement with the team, he'll be able to pursue other opportunities. The 25-year-old did exactly that last season and ultimately ended up on Miami's practice squad in October.

Miami signed Ellis to its practice squad Monday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Ellis was set to miss the entire 2022 campaign after being placed on the Dolphins' injured reserve list in August, but he eventually agreed to an injury settlement with Miami and now has made his way back onto the practice squad. With Byron Jones (ankle) on the reserve/PUP list and Xavien Howard (groin) having missed Sunday's loss at the Jets, Ellis already could be on a short path to being elevated.
