  • Ellis Merriweather: Placed on practice squad IL

The Packers placed Merriweather (undisclosed) on the practice-squad injured list Tuesday. It's not clear what Merriweather is working through, but he will now be barred from being elevated to the Packers' practice squad for the next four games. That means the earliest he could be available for elevation would be the NFC Championship Game if Green Bay were to make it that far. Merriweather has yet to play in a regular-season game since signing with the Saints as an undrafted free agent in May of 2023.

  • Ellis Merriweather: Back to practice squad

Merriweather reverted to the Packers' practice squad Saturday following Friday's 34-29 loss to the Eagles, per the NFL's transaction log. Merriweather was active for Friday's game due to MarShawn Lloyd being ruled out with a hamstring injury, though the former didn't end up playing a snap. Merriweather could be elevated from the practice squad again for Week 2 against the Colts if Lloyd is unable to suit up for that contest.

  • Packers' Ellis Merriweather: Active Friday

Merriweather is active for Friday's game versus the Eagles in Brazil, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports. Earlier Friday, Green Bay elevated Merriweather from the practice squad, and he now will be in uniform with the team opting to make rookie third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) inactive. Emanuel Wilson (hip) was limited in practice this week, and while he's available for RB reps behind starter Josh Jacobs, there's a chance Merriweather may see the first NFL action of his career. In three preseason games last month, Merriweather averaged 3.8 yards on his 26 carries.

  • Packers' Ellis Merriweather: Joins active roster

The Packers elevated Merriweather to their active roster Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The 25-year-old running back stuck around on the Packers' practice squad after failing to make the team's initial 53-man roster in late August, and he's now been elevated ahead of Green Bay's regular-season opener. Merriweather's elevation likely means that one or both of MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) and Emanuel Wilson (hip) won't suit up Friday night.

  • Ellis Merriweather: Sticks around in Green Bay

Merriweather signed with the Packers' practice squad Wednesday, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports. Merriweather failed to make Green Bay's initial 53-man roster, but he's now been brought back as a practice squad player. The UMass product rushed for 99 yards on 25 carries during the Packers' three preseason games, and he could be elevated to the active roster if one of the three running backs on Green Bay's active roster misses time at some point this season.

  • Ellis Merriweather: Doesn't make 53-man roster

Merriweather was waived by the Packers on Tuesday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports. Merriweather spent the second half of the 2023 season on the Packers' practice squad, and he signed with Green Bay in January on a reserve/future deal. He was competing for a depth spot at running back behind Josh Jacobs, and across three preseason outings, Merriweather turned 26 carries into 99 yards. If Merriweather clears waivers, he could look to stick around on the Packers' practice squad or explore his opportunities elsewhere.

  • Ellis Merriweather: Won't make team

Merriweather was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Brooke Kirchofer of NewOrleans.Football reports. Merriweather was working to make the team as an undrafted free agent out of UMass, but he was ultimately unable to make a move up the team's backfield depth chart.
