Hitner signed with the Bills' practice squad Wednesday, The Buffalo News reports.
It was initially believed that Hitner signed to Buffalo's 53-man roster after Tuesday's workout, but he instead joined the practice squad. The 24-year-old could be promoted should any injuries crop up on the interior of the offensive line.
Hitner was signed by the Bills on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Hitner had been placed on the Jets' practice squad injured list in mid-October, but he was healthy enough to impress during a workout in Buffalo this week.
The Jets placed Hitner (undisclosed) on the practice squad injured list Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
The nature and severity of Hitner's injury remain undisclosed at this time. Cornerback Arthur Maulet will replace him on New York's practice squad.
