Stingley recorded 39 tackles, 13 passes defensed and five interceptions over 11 regular-season games in 2023. Stingley, a second-year cornerback and 2022 first-round draft pick, suffered a Week 3 hamstring that created issues for the defense early on, but upon his return Week 10, Stingley made an impact. He had interceptions in three straight games, including a Week 13 win over the Broncos. Stingley will return as Houston's top cornerback in 2024.... See More ... See Less

Texans' Derek Stingley: Picks off pass in loss
Stingley intercepted one pass and broke up two more in the Texans' 36-22 defeat to the Browns on Sunday. With the interception, the second-year pro raised his 2023 total to five. Stingley also has 12 pass breakups and 32 tackles this season.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Logs pick in win
Stingley had six tackles, an interception and two passes defensed in Week 11's 21-16 win over the Cardinals. Stingley was stride for stride with Marquise Brown on a deep ball from Kyler Murray and brought in the 50-50 ball. It was the second career interception for Stingley, who played in his second game back from a hamstring injury suffered in Week 2. The cornerback was limited to 44 snaps (69 percent) in Week 10's win over the Bengals but was back to full duty Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Approaching return from IR
Houston designated Stingley (hamstring) for return from injured reserve Wednesday. The transaction starts the clock on a 21-day window during which the Texans can officially activate Stingley before they'd be forced to shut him down for the remainder of the season. Houston's injury reports this week will shed some light on whether he'll be ready to play come Sunday at Cincinnati.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Expected to be placed on IR
Stingley (hamstring) is expected to land on injured reserve, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Stingley is expected to be sidelined six-to-eight weeks due to a hamstring injury. IR only requires a four-week stay, so he would be eligible to return once he returns to health. In his absence, Shaquill Griffin is a candidate to replace him at cornerback opposite Steven Nelson, while Ka'dar Hollman, Alex Austin and Grayland Arnold could also see increased reps.... Texans' Derek Stingley: Not suiting up at Jacksonville
Stingley (hamstring) is listed as out for Sunday's game at the Jaguars. Stingley was rumored to be on his way to the injured reserve list earlier in the week, so it's not a shock that he'll sit out in Week 3. Grayland Arnold should see an uptick in reps in his absence.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Likely heading to IR
Stingley (hamstring) is expected to miss several weeks and be placed on injured reserve, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The second-year corner suffered a hamstring injury during the final play of practice Wednesday and has already had an MRI to determine the severity. Stingley has not officially been ruled out of Houston's Week 3 contest against Jacksonville, but all signs are pointing to the LSU product missing a handful of weeks.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Heading to IR
Houston placed Stingley (hamstring) on its injured reserve list Saturday. With the Texans already eliminated from playoff contention, the move will end Stingley's otherwise promising rookie season. Tavierre Thomas should see an expanded role for the remainder of 2022 in Stingley's absence.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Out again
Stingley (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against Dallas. Stingley will miss a fourth straight game due to a hamstring injury. As long as the rookie first-round pick remains sidelined, Desmond King and Tavierre Thomas should continue garnering increased roles.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Improving but not practicing
Stingley (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, but his injury is improving, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports. Stingley has missed three consecutive games due to a hamstring injury and remains sidelined to start Week 14 prep. He appears to be trending in the wrong direction, but Houston remains optimistic that he'll be back before too long.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Won't suit up Sunday
Stingley (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Stingley picked up a hamstring injury ahead of Houston's Week 11 loss to Washington, leaving him sidelined during each practice ahead of Sunday's contest. While it's unclear exactly when this issue first arose, the rookie cornerback will now turn his focus toward recovering ahead of the Texans' game against Cleveland on Sunday, Dec. 4. With Stingley sidelined for the second game in a row, expect Steven Nelson, Desmond King and Tavierre Thomas to slot in as the top three cornerbacks against Miami's explosive wide receiver corps.... Texans' Derek Stingley: Doesn't practice Wednesday
Stingley (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game at Miami. Stingley appears to be in jeopardy of missing a second consecutive game with the same hamstring ailment that kept him out of Houston's loss versus Washington in Week 11. Should he need to sit out in Week 12, Tavierre Thomas would once again be in line for an increased role.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Still dealing with injury
Stingley is still recovering from a mild hamstring strain Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Stingley was unable to play in Sunday's loss against the Commanders, and it appears he may be in danger of missing Week 12's game with the Dolphins. He'll work this week to be ready for Miami, but if he is unable to play, Desmond King and Tavierre Thomas will likely be looking at increased opportunity once again.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: First pick at crucial time
Stingley recorded seven tackles, an interception and two passes defensed in Sunday's 13-6 win over the Jaguars in Week 5. The interception was the first in the NFL for Stingley, who thwarted a Jacksonville drive with an end-zone pick. The rookie first-round pick battled an arm injury during the practice week but played all 75 snaps on defense.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Derek Stingley: Makes preseason debut
Stingley had one tackle and one pass defensed in Friday's preseason game against the Rams. Stingley, the third overall pick in the 2022 draft, made his preseason debut Friday, getting in for three series. He was targeted twice and allowed one catch for 22 yards and broke up the other. Stingley appeared to be caught on his back foot, looking at the quarterback too long on the 22-yard completion to Lance McCutcheon, and he told Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle that he understood there are areas in which he needs to improve. He didn't play in the preseason opener, as Texans head coach Lovie Smith took a cautious approach with the cornerback who is coming off a Lisfranc injury at LSU and was limited throughout offseason activities....
