Cary Williams: Signs with Washington
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Williams signed with Washington on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Signed to a three-year, $18 million contract in the offseason, Williams was released by the Seahawks in early December, making him one of the bigger disappointments from the 2015 free agent class. In reality, he's been pretty consistent throughout his career, rarely giving up huge plays but frequently allowing intermediate gains. Although he somehow parlayed that into a pair of big contracts, the 31-year-old Williams will likely just fill a depth role for Washington.

Cary Williams: Released by Seahawks
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Williams, who signed a three-year $18 million deal in the offeseason, was released Monday by the Seahawks, the Seattle Times reports.

Williams was a huge bust for the Seahawks, who signed him to replace Byron Maxwell at right cornerback. He continually got beat downfield and struggled to master the team's coverage technique. He was benched in Week 11 after getting beat for a 36-yard completion by 49ers TE Vance McDonald and then was a healthy inactive the last two weeks. The Seahawks have allowed seven touchdowns and nine receptions of 25-plus yards to tight ends this season. Not all were Williams' fault, but the last two weeks without Williams (vs. PIT, MIN), the Seahawks allowed 11 receptions for 76 yards, and no touchdowns or 25-plus yard plays. DeShawn Shead replaced him as the starting right corner.

Report: Titans interested in Devin McCourty, Jason Worilds, Cary Williams
by Jason Butt |

The Titans are interested in upgrading their entire defense, it looks like.

According to The Tennessean, the Titans have expressed interest in bringing in free agents safety Devin McCourty, outside linebacker Jason Worilds and cornerback Cary Williams

McCourty is the top free agent safety in this year's group, though the Eagles and Giants are looking like the top bidders for his services

Worilds is comfortable with associate head coach Dick LeBeau as he played under him in Pittsburgh. He would likely mesh well into what the Titans are looking to do on that side of the ball.

Williams has familiarity with the Titans as they selected him in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft. Williams is also reportedly receiving interest from the Seahawks, Jets and Ravens.

The Titans are also hopeful of bringing back outside linebacker Derrick Morgan with a new deal.

Eagles release outspoken cornerback Cary Williams
by Larry Hartstein |

The Eagles released cornerback Cary Williams, who started all 32 games during his two-year tenure in Philly. Williams recorded 127 tackles, five interceptions and 24 passes defensed since joining the Eagles.

Williams made headlines during the season for questioning Eagles Coach Chip Kelly's conditioning regimen.

"I'm saying [practicing every day] impacted a lot of people," Williams said after a hard-fought 37-34 win over the Redskins in September. "A lot of people, but I'm just the only one man enough to get up here and say anything about it, talk to y'all as a man and discuss an issue that, obviously, in my opinion, is an issue in our starts [to games].

"But again, I'm just employee 26, and whatever they deem necessary to get us ready for Sunday is whatever it is. If we have to find energy from outside sources to start games quick, then we've got to do it. But right now, the way we're doing it, it's not conducive to success."

Williams, 30, was scheduled to make $6.5 million this season with a cap hit of $8.1 million.
