  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Undergoes knee procedure

Hertl had surgery Monday to remove loose cartilage in his left knee and will be sidelined for multiple weeks. Hertl was already designated for injured reserve Monday, so this announcement shouldn't come as a surprise. Given his timeline and $8 million-plus cap hit, the center could be a strong candidate for long-term injured reserve, though the Sharks aren't expected to be buyers at the trade deadline anyway. At this point, Hertl is unlikely to reach the 60-point threshold, missing that mark for the first time since 2020-21. William Eklund could be tasked with a bigger role with Hertl shelved.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Surfaces on IR

Hertl (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Hertl sat out two contests before participating in the All-Star Game in Toronto, but he has missed two straight practices following the break. Even though a timetable for his return has not been provided, it seems doubtful that he will be available for the team's upcoming two-game road trip. Hertl has accounted for 15 goals and 34 points over 48 games this season.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Sidelined Wednesday versus Anaheim

Hertl (lower body) will miss Wednesday's matchup against Anaheim, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News. Although Hertl will miss San Jose's last game before the All-Star break, the veteran winger could be cleared in time to play in Saturday's All-Star game. The 30-year-old is on track to record a third straight 20-plus goal campaign this year -- he's currently at 15 tallies through 48 games.

Hertl (lower body) will miss Tuesday's contest at home against Seattle, per Max Miller of The Hockey News. Hertl has put together a solid season thus far with 15 goals and 19 assists in 48 games. In his last five games, he's posted two goals and two assists to go along with 10 shots. The 30-year-old is in his 11th year in the league, all coming with the Sharks. • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Considered day-to-day

Hertl (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day after skipping Monday's practice, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Hertl told Pashelka on Monday that he isn't sure if he'll be able to play in Tuesday's contest against Seattle. Hertl temporarily left Saturday's 5-2 loss to Buffalo before returning in the third period. He has accounted for 15 goals, 34 points, 113 shots on net, 46 blocked shots and 38 hits in 48 games this season. If Hertl can't play, William Eklund could shift to center in Tuesday's contest.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Completes comeback in overtime

Hertl scored the game-winning goal and added three shots on net in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Rangers. Hertl tallied 1:29 into the extra session to complete the Sharks' comeback win. The 30-year-old has two goals and two assists over his last three games, and it's possible some of the opponents' attention may be off of Hertl now that Logan Couture is in the lineup. Hertl is up to 15 goals, 34 points, 112 shots on net, 46 blocked shots, 38 hits, 22 PIM and a minus-25 rating through 47 appearances. He remains the Sharks' top overall forward.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Paces Sharks with two points

Hertl supplied an empty-net goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Ducks. Hertl leads the Sharks in points -- he's fashioned 14 goals and 18 assists in 45 games -- but that isn't saying a whole lot as Team Teal ranks dead last in scoring at 2.04 goals per game. Also, it gets worse when you consider that Hertl's already had 56 of his shots blocked compared to 77 blocks against for his 82-game career average. The silver lining is that the Sharks welcomed captain Logan Couture (lower body) back for his season debut in Saturday's win, and that should take some pressure off Hertl in this anemic offense.

The 30-year-old center is up to 12 tallies, 27 points, 82 shots on net, 29 blocked shots, 26 hits and a minus-15 rating through 33 appearances. The 30-year-old center is up to 11 goals, 26 points, 78 shots on net, 26 hits, 26 blocked shots and a minus-16 rating through 30 appearances. With five goals and three assists during a five-game point streak, Hertl is more than doing his part to make the Sharks exciting again. The 30-year-old forward has nine goals, 15 helpers, 68 shots on net, 25 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating through 27 outings overall. Outside of a rough plus-minus rating, he's playing as well as you'd expect from the average top-line center.

Hertl scored twice Thursday in a 6-5 overtime win over Detroit. After starting the season with just five points in his first 10 games, Hertl has 18 points, including eight goals, in his last 16 games. He's currently on a four-game, seven-point streak that includes five goals, all of which have come in his last two games. Sure, Hertl's minus-14 has an odor for those of you in leagues that count that stat, but his other stats are worthy of greater activation.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Powers Sharks to comeback win

Hertl recorded a hat trick with three goals on eight shots in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Islanders. • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Nine points in last 10 games

Hertl put up two assists in a 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal on Friday. Putting up points this season has been like pushing a boulder uphill for Hertl, who inked a huge contract extension with the bottom-dwelling Sharks in March of 2022. He clearly loves the place and the team, and quietly, he's also delivered nine points, including six helpers, in his last 10 games. Hertl also has 27 shots in that span. You may be able to pick up him for almost nothing, but beware of his plus-minus rating. He's already at minus-16 in just 20 games. That's an ugly record if it continues to grow.

Hertl is up to four goals, 12 points, 45 shots on net, 20 hits, 17 blocked shots and a minus-15 rating through 18 outings while serving as the Sharks' top-line center.
