    Hertl and the Sharks agreed to an eight-year contract extension Wednesday, per The Hockey News.

    Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports the extension carries a salary cap hit of $8.1375 million annually and will keep Hertl in Santa Clara County through his age-36 campaign. Currently seventh on the Sharks' all-time scoring list with 371 points (in 562 regular-season games), Hertl is a core piece of the team's offense -- and despite the fact he's never reached the coveted point-per-game mark, the 28-year-old is a legitimate top-six center capable of playing in all situations.
