  • Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Tallies twice in win

MacKinnon scored two goals on six shots in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Canucks. MacKinnon battled an illness Monday but was healthy enough to play in this contest. The 30-year-old only went on to log 22:15 of ice time, most among Colorado forwards, while scoring in the final minute of both the first and second periods. If he wasn't quite 100 percent, he didn't show it. MacKinnon has five goals and four assists during a four-game multi-point streak, during which he's added 20 shots on net and a plus-9 rating. On the year, the superstar has 22 goals, 46 points, 114 shots and a plus-32 rating across 26 contests.

  • Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: In action Tuesday

MacKinnon (illness) will be in the lineup versus the Canucks on Tuesday, Aarif Deen of Colorado Hockey Now reports. MacKinnon registered at least a point in 11 of 13 games in November, including seven multi-point efforts. The world-class center leads the NHL in goals (20) and points (44) to start the season and should be in the mix for both the Rocket and Hart trophies at the end of the year.

  • Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Dealing with illness

MacKinnon is under the weather and won't practice Monday. The Avalanche are already dealing with a threadbare forward group, so losing MacKinnon, along with Parker Kelly and Gabriel Landeskog, would really set them back versus Vancouver on Tuesday. For now, MacKinnon and company should be considered questionable to face the Canucks. The 30-year-old center is riding a three-game point streak, during which he has racked up three goals and four assists, giving him 13 multi-point outings in 25 games this year.

MacKinnon has produced multi-point performances in three straight games as he pads his lead in the NHL scoring race, and through 25 contests, he's amassed 20 goals and 44 points.

He has never won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's top scorer. Mack has finished second to Nikita Kucherov the past two seasons.

MacKinnon has 16 goals, 20 helpers, 89 shots on net, 17 hits, 15 blocked shots, 12 PIM and a plus-22 rating through 20 appearances, a big reason why the Avalanche are 14-1-5 at the quarter mark of their season.

He's been the best player on the best team so far, racking up 14 goals and 29 points to lead the NHL in both categories. MacKinnon has added 71 shots on net, eight power-play points and a plus-13 rating through 16 appearances. He was superb with 32 goals, 116 points, 320 shots on net and a plus-25 rating over 79 regular-season appearances, and fantasy managers wishing to have him on their roster for next year will have to invest an early first-round pick to do that.
