Puljujarvi (shoulder) penned a one-year, $3 million contract with Edmonton on Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Puljujarvi and the Oilers were headed toward an arbitration hearing Friday but appear to have found a middle ground on a new contract. Last season, the 24-year-old winger surpassed the 30-point threshold for the first time in his career, no doubt in part to spending chunks of the season on Edmonton's top line with Connor McDavid. While Puljujarvi is far from a lock for that role heading into the 2022-23 campaign, he should be in the mix for a top-six role and could surpass the career mark of 36 points he set last year.... Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Dealing with shoulder problem
Puljujarvi is facing a 4-6 week recovery period due to a shoulder injury, general manager Ken Holland told reporters Wednesday, per Jason Gregor of OilersNation.com. Based on Puljujarvi's recovery timeline, he shouldn't be expected to miss any time next season and figures to be good to go for training camp. The youngster will be a restricted free agent this offseason, so the team will need to re-sign him, though he is unlikely to be the top priority for a club that also has to make a decision on the future of Evander Kane.... Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Buries goal in win
Puljujarvi scored a goal on three shots in Thursday's 5-4 overtime win over the Flames in Game 5. Puljujarvi scored on a pass from Zach Hyman at 9:56 of the second period. Prior to Thursday, Puljujarvi had not registered a point in his last eight outings. The 24-year-old winger has dropped into a bottom-six role for much of the playoffs with just three points, 19 shots on net, 19 hits, 10 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating in 12 appearances.... Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Chips in with helper
Puljujarvi notched an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 8-2 win over the Kings in Game 3. Puljujarvi helped out on the second of Evander Kane's three goals in the contest. With a goal and an assist in the last two games, Puljujarvi is starting to get comfortable with the pace of playoff hockey, albeit in a limited role. He should continue to feature in the top six at even strength, which makes him a decent upside pick for fantasy managers.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Tallies in Game 2 win
Puljujarvi scored a goal on three shots, added two hits and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Kings in Game 2. Puljujarvi netted an insurance tally at 3:23 of the third period. The 23-year-old winger has now picked up six points in four postseason contests in his career. This was his first goal and point of the 2022 playoffs. While he's been listed on the top line, Puljujarvi may continue to see sheltered minutes and a lack of power-play time.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Earns assist in return
Puljujarvi (illness) recorded an assist in 13:27 of ice time in Thursday's 5-4 overtime win over the Sharks. Puljujarvi missed three games due to an illness, and he was eased back into the lineup. The 23-year-old had the secondary assist on Philip Broberg's first career goal, which tied the game at 4-4 in the third period. Puljujarvi is up to 14 tallies, 22 helpers, 158 shots on net, 81 hits and a plus-22 rating through 64 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Returning Thursday
Puljujarvi (illness) is set to return Thursday against San Jose, Jason Gregor of OilersNation.com reports. The 23-year-old took line rushes at morning skate on the top line with Connor McDavid and Evander Kane, further cementing his return to the lineup after a three-game absence. Puljujarvi will look to further build on his career-high 35 points in the final two games of the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Should return against Sharks
Puljujarvi (illness) is expected to be ready to return to action Thursday against San Jose, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports. Puljujarvi will miss a third straight contest Tuesday versus Pittsburgh due to an illness, but he's expected to be ready to rejoin the lineup when the Oilers return home for Thursday's matchup with the Sharks. He's collected 14 goals and 35 points through 63 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Not with team Sunday
Puljujarvi (illness) didn't travel with the team to Columbus for Sunday's game, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports. Puljujarvi could still join the team Tuesday in Pittsburgh if he starts to feel better, but he's back in Edmonton and should be considered questionable at best for that one. Devin Shore will enter the lineup Sunday while Puljujarvi sits out for a second consecutive game.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Sidelined with illness
Puljujarvi won't play Friday against Colorado due to a non-COVID illness, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports. With Puljujarvi under the weather, look for Josh Archibald, Devin Shore or Derick Brassard to enter the lineup against the Avalanche. Puljujarvi can be considered day-to-day heading into Sunday's matchup with Columbus.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Nets goal in win
Puljujarvi scored a goal on four shots and added three hits in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Stars. Puljujarvi redirected an Evan Bouchard shot in at 18:00 of the second period. The tally snapped a six-game point drought for Puljujarvi, who has struggled more on offense while shuffling around the lineup over the last month or so. The 23-year-old winger is up to 14 tallies, 35 points, 157 shots, 81 hits and a plus-21 rating through 63 contests in what's been a career year.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Finds twine in win
Puljujarvi scored a goal on four shots, added three hits and went plus-2 in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Ducks. Puljujarvi finally snapped a nine-game goal drought that had weighed him down since he returned from a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old added the insurance tally in the second period. He's up to 13 goals, 34 points, 139 shots on net, 69 hits and a plus-21 rating through 56 contests. Puljujarvi needs two more goals to match his total from last season as he aims for a career year across the board.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Collects pair of helpers
Puljujarvi notched two assists, four shots on goal, four hits and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 6-1 win over the Coyotes. Puljujarvi set up Connor McDavid on the first goal and Leon Draisaitl on the last one in this contest. In seven games since he returned from a lower-body injury, Puljujarvi has five assists. He was reunited with McDavid on the top line Monday after the Oilers were humiliated by the Flames on Saturday. Through 53 outings, Puljujarvi has 33 points, 134 shots, 58 hits and a plus-15 rating.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Records assist
Puljujarvi notched an assist, three shots on goal and four hits in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Sharks. In five games since he returned from a lower-body injury, Puljujarvi has three assists, a plus-5 rating, 12 shots on net and eight hits. The 23-year-old winger is up to 31 points, 129 shots on net, 54 hits and a plus-13 rating through 51 contests overall. He played on the third line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Derick Brassard in Thursday's contest -- with the Oilers getting reinforcements from trades and injury returns, they can run three scoring lines regularly.... Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Two helpers Saturday
Puljujarvi collected two assists in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Devils. After going scoreless Thursday in his return from a lower-body injury that cost him a dozen games, Puljujarvi appeared to be back in form Saturday. The 23-year-old has 12 goals and 30 points through 48 contests on the season, and as long as he's got a top-six role alongside either Leon Draisiatl or Connor McDavid, Puljujarvi will have fantasy appeal.... Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Returning Thursday
Puljujarvi (lower body) will rejoin the lineup versus Buffalo on Thursday, Bob Stauffer of Oilers Now reports. In order to clear the way for Puljujarvi to be activated off injured reserve, the Oilers placed Tyler Benson on waivers Wednesday. With the 233-year-old Puljujarvi back in the lineup, he figures to jump back into a second-line role alongside Leon Draistaitl and could even get looks with the top line and Connor McDavid. As such, the Swedish winger should be a top-half fantasy target the rest of the way.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Back at practice
Puljujarvi (lower body) participated in practice Monday and is considered day-to-day. Puljujarvi could return to action as early as Tuesday against Detroit, but head coach Jay Woodcroft said the team would see how he feels before making a decision. The 23-year-old winger has missed the last 11 games with his lower-body injury. Once he's healthy, he should return to a top-six role, where he's scored 28 points in 46 games this season.... Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Lands on IR
Puljujarvi (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Friday. Puljujarvi is expected to be sidelined for around four weeks with his lower-body injury, so this move was expected. Unless Ryan Nugent-Hopkins shifts to the wing, Derek Ryan may get the first crack at replacing Puljujarvi on the second line Saturday against the Jets.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Out around four weeks
Puljujarvi (lower body) will be out for about four weeks. This is a tough blow for the 23-year-old, whose 28 points in 46 games are a career high. It sounds like Puljujarvi will miss 12 or so contests with the potential for more.... See More ... See Less -
Oilers' Jesse Puljujarvi: Suffers lower-body injury
Puljujarvi suffered a lower-body injury and won't return to Thursday's game versus the Ducks, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports. Puljujarvi exited the contest in the second period, though it's unclear how he was injured. The winger scored the Oilers' go-ahead goal in the second period prior to his exit, and he had three shots on goal in the contest. Puljujarvi's played a top-six role for much of the season -- if he can't play Saturday versus the Jets, Tyler Benson could enter the lineup.... See More ... See Less
