  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Falls to the Ducks

Merzlikins allowed five goals on 33 shots in Thursday's 5-2 loss to Anaheim. Merzlikins and the Blue Jackets carried a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. However, the Ducks would respond with three goals in the second period to tie the game before Merzlikins conceded another two in the third in a 5-2 loss. It's been a rough season for the 28-year-old netminder as he falls to 5-13-0 with a .868 save percentage and a 4.48 GAA. Merzlikins will likely slide back into a backup role with Joonas Korpisalo (personal) rejoining Columbus on Thursday.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Starting against Anaheim

Merzlikins will guard the home goal during Thursday's matchup with the Ducks, Blue Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda reports. Merzlikins was pretty solid in his last start Monday against the Rangers, turning aside 30 of 33 shots, but he still came away with a loss due to insufficient goal support from his teammates. He'll try to get back in the win column in a favorable home matchup with an Anaheim team that's 4-15-4 on the road this year.

He dropped to 5-12-0 with a 4.44 GAA and .869 save percentage in 19 games this season. The 28-year-old has surrendered 12 goals on 107 shots over his last three starts.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Finally finds another win

Merzlikins made 25 saves in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings. The 28-year-old netminder didn't make things easy on himself -- he took a shutout, and a 4-0 lead, into the third period before the wheels nearly came off after Detroit's first tally came on an own goal by Mathieu Olivier. Merzlikins held on for his first win in over a month, and his fifth of the season. He's beginning to show flashes of his old form, and if he sees consistent work while Joonas Korpisalo (personal) is away from the team, Merzlikins might just climb his way back into fantasy relevance again. The Latvian's got a long way to go, though, and through four starts in January, Merzlikins has coughed up 16 goals on 130 shots (.877 save percentage).

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Good to go Saturday

Merzlikins (illness) has returned to health and will be back in the lineup Saturday in Detroit. Blue Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda reports. Merzlikins will either start Saturday or be the backup to Joonas Korpisalo, but the good news is that he is healthy enough that Jet Greaves was returned to AHL Cleveland on Friday. It has been a tough go of things for Merzlikins this season, as he is 4-11-0 with a 4.62 GAA and .865 save percentage.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Buried by Bolts

Merzlikins turned aside 40 shots in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Lightning. Making his second straight start, Merzlikins got hung out to dry by the Columbus defense as he faced his second-highest shot volume of the season, behind only the 53 pucks the Devils fired his way Oct. 30. Three of Tampa Bay's goals were scored on the power play, and Elvis had little chance on the other three, including one on a breakaway from center ice by Vladislav Namestnikov midway through the second period. Merzlikins hasn't won a game since Dec. 11 and his numbers on the season remain brutal, but with Joonas Korpisalo (personal) away from the team and Daniil Tarasov (upper body) on IR, he could see a heavy workload in the short term.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Stops 18 in loss

Merzlikins allowed a goal on 19 shots in Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Capitals. Erik Gustafsson's goal early in the first period was the lone blemish against Merzlikins. However, the Blue Jackets couldn't crack Darcy Kuemper on the other end, as they fell 1-0. Merzlikins has now dropped three consecutive starts, including his last two against Washington. He came down with COVID-19 a week later and is finally back in the lineup, albeit as the backup to Joonas Korpisalo. Per Blue Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda, Merzlikins is on the ice for Wednesday's practice, indicating he's been activated off the NHL's COVID-19 list. Merzlikins has been sidelined since Dec. 13 due to his illness, so it remains to be seen if he'll be available for Thursday's game versus the Islanders, but he should be back in action sooner rather than later. Confirmation on Merzlikins' status against New York will presumably surface prior to puck drop.

Merzlikins stopped 22 of 25 shots in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the Panthers. Florida's final goal was scored into an empty net. Merzlikins' brief two-game win streak came to an end as well, and since making his return from a lower-body injury earlier this month he has a rough .862 save percentage over five appearances.
