Top Islanders News

  • Islanders' Brayden Schenn: Nets power-play marker

Schenn scored a power-play goal on two shots, added four hits and blocked two shots in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning.

Schenn continued his strong start to the year with this tally. The veteran forward has two goals, three assists, 10 shots on net, 14 hits, three blocked shots, nine PIM and a plus-1 rating over five appearances. Schenn is playing on the second line and first power-play unit, which gives him a reliable floor for fantasy production, especially in leagues that reward his physicality.

  • Islanders' Matias Maccelli: Three-game assist streak

Maccelli delivered an assist Saturday in a 5-3 loss to the Lightning.

Maccelli has quietly put up an assist in each of his last three games. He is coming off a 39-point campaign in Toronto last season and has the playmaking to get back to the mid-50 range if the stars align over Long Island. Maccelli is motivated to make that happen. He's on a one-year contract and out to prove an extension is worth a team's time and cash.

  • Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Hits 400-point plateau

Pageau scored a goal Saturday in a 5-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

He tipped a Matthew Schaefer shot for his first goal of the season. Pageau has three points (one goal, two assists), 13 hits, four shots and four blocks in five games this season. The goal was his 400th NHL point (175 goals, 225 assists); it came in Pageau's 867th game.

  • Islanders' Matthew Schaefer: On pace to shatter Bobby Orr record

Schaefer picked up an assist Saturday in a 5-3 loss to the Lightning.

Initially, Schaefer was credited with a goal that would have tied him with Bobby Orr for goals by a defender under 20, but the goal was given to Jean-Gabriel Pageau after a review. Schaefer has 23; Orr had 24. The former turned 19 in early September, so the record will be shattered this season. Who knew?

  • Islanders' Tony DeAngelo: First points of season

DeAngelo scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning.

The points were his first this season. DeAngelo is averaging 16:40 so far, and his 16:33 was fifth among Isles' defenders on Saturday. Sheltered minutes 5v5 plus second-unit deployment on the power play means DeAngelo will deliver decent lower-risk production for fantasy managers.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Falls in duel with Vasilevskiy

Sorokin made 21 saves in a 5-3 loss to the Lightning on Saturday. He allowed four goals.

He and Andrei Vasilevskiy were locked in a duel until Brandon Hagel broke the tie at 18:16 of the third period. Sorokin has been lights out this season, recording a 2-2-0 record with one shutout, a 1.77 GAA and .937 save percentage. Prior to Saturday, he had allowed just three goals in three starts.

  • Islanders' Vladimir Dravecky: Massive performance in win

Dravecky scored twice and added three assists in OHL Guelph's 10-5 win over Owen Sound on Saturday.

Dravecky just signed his entry-level deal with the Islanders on Wednesday. He was a fifth-round pick in 2026, but his stock is rising fast. He's opened the campaign with nine points and a plus-8 rating over six contests for the Storm. He's in a great spot for offense with Guelph, but it'll be interesting to see how his defensive work progresses.

  • Islanders' Bo Horvat: Available for Saturday's clash

Horvat (upper body) is expected to be in Saturday's lineup for Saturday's home clash with the Lightning, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.

Horvat appears to be healthy after he received an illegal check to the head from Frank Nazar in Thursday's clash. The 31-year-old Horvathas put together a strong start to the 2026-27 campaign, posting four goals, five points, 14 shots on net and nine hits across four appearances. Barring any setbacks prior to Saturday's puck drop, the Islanders' captain will likely stay in the lineup as the team's top line center for the matchup with Tampa Bay.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Set to start Saturday

Sorokin is expected to protect the home net against Tampa Bay on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin occupied the starter's crease during the morning skate and was the first goalie off the ice. While posting a 2-1-0 record in three outings this season, he has stopped 83 of 86 shots. Tampa Bay (3-1-0) has 11 goals in four contests this campaign.

  • Islanders' Logan Stanley: Delivers two assists in win

Stanley recorded two assists, two hits, three blocked shots, 10 PIM and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Blackhawks.

Stanley was left unsigned late into the preseason before inking a one-year deal with the Islanders. That signing looks to be beneficial for the team, who will be without Alexander Romanov for 6-8 months following a torn ACL that required surgery. Stanley slotted into Romanov's usual top-pairing slot alongside Matthew Schaefer for Thursday's contest. Through four games, Stanley has four assists, two shots on net, 11 hits, eight blocked shots, 12 PIM and a plus-4 rating. He had a career-high 26 points in 76 regular-season outings between Winnipeg and Buffalo last year, and if he continues to be a top-pairing option, he could get back in that neighborhood this year.

  • Islanders' Anthony Duclair: Finds twine in win

Duclair scored a goal on two shots and added four PIM in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Blackhawks.

Duclair has seen steady third-line usage to open the season. The 31-year-old winger battled a lower-body injury late in 2025-26, but he was often a healthy scratch after he moved past that issue, so it's a positive to see him consistently in the lineup. Through four outings in 2026-27, he has a goal, six shots, two hits, two blocked shots and four PIM.

  • Islanders' Emil Heineman: Scores in Thursday's win

Heineman scored a goal and added two hits in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Blackhawks.

Heineman has seen most his even-strength usage on the top line this season. He's produced two goals, three shots and 10 hits over four contests, though he's still seeing just traces of power-play time. Heineman had 22 goals, nine assists, 174 shots on net, 247 hits and a minus-13 rating over 82 regular-season appearances last year, and his shot is good enough to eventually help him see time with the man advantage.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Stops 22 shots in win Thursday

Sorokin stopped 22 of 23 shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Blackhawks.

Sorokin came within minutes of recording a shutout before Frank Nazar scored with 2:34 remaining in regulation. The Russian netminder was particularly sharp early in the second period, denying Cole Smith on a breakaway during a sequence that required video review to determine whether the puck crossed the goal line. Sorokin has looked excellent to start the season, posting a save percentage of at least .920 in each of his three contests and going 2-1-0 with a 1.01 GAA and .965 save percentage to open the campaign.

  • Islanders' Bo Horvat: Undergoing evaluation

Horvat is undergoing evaluation for an upper-body injury he sustained late in the third period of Thursday's game versus the Blackhawks, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

Horvat was caught up high on a Frank Nazar hit. The 31-year-old Horvat racked up two goals, including one on the power play, prior to the injury. If he is unavailable Saturday versus the Lightning, Kyle MacLean will likely enter the lineup, while Brayden Schenn could move from the wing to center to replenish the depth down the middle. Horvat has earned five points over four games this season.

  • Islanders' Tomas Poletin: Earns three points for Kelowna

Poletin scored a goal on three shots and added two assists in WHL Kelowna's 10-2 win over Swift Current on Wednesday.

Poletin has earned a goal and three assists across four contests this season. The winger racked up 35 points in 43 regular-season contests for the Rockets last year, as well as five points in nine playoff outings. He'll be a key part of Kelowna's offense this season.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Has torn ACL

Romanov will miss the next six-to-eight months and undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, the team announced Wednesday.

Romanov's timetable doesn't completely rule him out for the remainder of the 2026-27 campaign, but even in a best-case scenario, he would be returning for only the Islanders' final few games. He has no points, a plus-2 rating, three shots, five hits and seven blocks in three outings this year. Romanov's long-term absence creates an opportunity for Scott Mayfield or Matt Kessel to play far more often this campaign than they might have otherwise.
