Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy has offered the open offensive coordinator position to former Missouri coordinator David Yost, according to a source of the Columbia Tribune's Dave Matter.

If Yost accepts, he would replace Todd Monken, who was officially hired as the head coach at Southern Miss on Tuesday. Yost is a natural fit as he has plenty of experience coaching in the Big 12 after spending the past 12 seasons at Missouri. 

Gundy and Yost also have a history together. Matter reports that they spent last winter at Northwestern with several other spread offensive staffs and then later the OSU staff came to Columbia to share notes. 

"Yost told me last March that it was his staff's first chance to work with a staff whose system descended from Mike Leach's Air Raid offense," Matter writes. 

Yost stepped down from his position at Missouri last week following a 5-7 finish in 2012, the first season that Missouri will not play in a bowl game since 2004. Yost would be in good company in Stillwater, as Gundy has had a successful run with coordinators. Monken spent two years as coordinator, following current West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen's one season at OSU. 

Matter reported that it's unclear if Yost is strongly considering Gundy's offer, but it seems like a natural fit. Yost also coached quarterbacks at Missouri, and Monken juggled his coordinator duties with coaching the QBs. 

UT's Major Applewhite to take on play-calling duties: The Austin American-Statesman reports that Texas co-offensive coordinator Major Applewhite will take over play-calling duties, inheriting the job from former co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin, who left to become the head coach at Arkansas State. 

Although Applewhite shared the title with Harsin, it appears Harsin was the main man in charge of the offense. Applewhite's title will not change, but he has more responsibility and will coach quarterbacks instead of running backs. 

KU lands prized juco recruit: Charlie Weis is trying to build through the junior college ranks, and he seems to be off to a good start. The Jayhawks landed highly recruited DT Marquel Combs, a four-star prospect from Pierce Community College in Woodland Hills, Calif., the Lawrence Journal-World reported. Combs picked Kansas over Kansas State and Washington State. 

"I just feel like I can come in and make an immediate impact," Combs told the Journal-World. "I wanted to show everybody that I can help rebuild a program. It's not about going to a program that's already built. I'm not trying to be a number. I want to be a reason why that program was built."

Weis also landed OT Zach Fondal, a two-star recruit from Navarro Junior College. Fondal picked Kansas over Arkansas and Texas Tech. Fondal is the 18th player in the 2013 class to commit to KU and the 12th JC player. 

Texas Tech and Baylor keep game at Cowboys Stadium: Texas Tech and Baylor exercised a two-year option to continue playing their series at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported. The teams have met at Cowboys Stadium the last two years. Baylor will give up a home game in 2013 and Texas Tech will give up its 2014 home game to play in Arlington.
