Florida at Arkansas game score: Hogs dominate No. 11 Gators in upset win
It was never close on Saturday in Fayetteville as Arkansas took it to the SEC East leaders
Arkansas dominated all afternoon in Fayetteville as the Razorbacks cruised to a 31-10 victory over No. 11 Florida. The Hogs out-gained the Gators 466-241 on offense as the Florida's woes continued on that side of the ball.
Florida's defense did its best early to bail out the struggling offense -- with a pick-six by Duke Dawson that was the only touchdown of the afternoon for the Gators -- but the ineptitude was too much and the Gators were on the field defending for far too long to remain fresh and effective.
The Arkansas offensive line that couldn't open a hole against Auburn two weeks ago looked like a vintage Bielema line on Saturday, gashing Florida for 206 rushing yards including a 41-yard touchdown run by Rawleigh Williams III in the fourth quarter to ice the game. It was a fantastic bounce-back performance from Arkansas, which took advantage of the bye week to get much needed rest and make improvements to its play and physicality.
Williams was the star for the Razorbacks, rushing for 148 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Drew Morgan was the leading receiver for Arkansas with seven catches for 95 yards and one touchdown as he was the favorite target of Austin Allen.
The Gators' offense picked up some chunk yards through the air late in the game with the outcome no longer in doubt, but the rushing game for Florida appeared non-existent. UF rushed for only 12 yards on 14 carries against an Arkansas defense that gave up an SEC record 562 rushing yards to Auburn two weeks ago.
Even with the loss, Florida remains in control of its destiny in the SEC East at 4-2 in the conference with games against South Carolina and LSU remaining. The Gators are now tied with Kentucky for the SEC East lead but holds the tiebreaker having beaten the Wildcats. Kentucky plays Georgia on Saturday night.
However, Florida's offense has significant issues and the injuries have begun piling up on both sides of the ball as starting linebackers Jarrad Davis (ankle) and Alex Anzalone (wrist), who are also the team's leading tacklers, both left the games with injuries and did not return. On offense, starting center Cam Dillard and freshman receiver Tyrie Cleveland also left the game with leg injuries.
The offense, healthy or not, hasn't been able to move the ball much on any quality defense all season, getting by often on the graces of their tremendous defensive counterparts giving them good field position and/or points. The defense can only carry Florida so far. That still might enough to get to the Georgia Dome, but unless the offense makes a dramatic improvement in the next few weeks, Florida will not be expected to compete with Alabama or whatever other team emerges from the West.
