At this point there seems to be a consensus pick for this year's Heisman Trophy, but this has also been a season in which we've seen a lot of unexpected players mentioned as candidates in recent weeks. Which is why it doesn't come as much of a surprise that there will be six finalists for the award.

And those finalists are:

Jordan Lynch, Northern Illinois

Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M

Tre Mason, Auburn

AJ McCarron, Alabama

Andre Williams, Boston College

Jameis Winston, Florida State

Now, this is just a hunch, but I think Auburn running back Tre Mason might have just earned his trip to New York on Saturday night in the SEC Championship. Because I had not heard his name mentioned as a candidate until that game.

Another hunch is that Jameis Winston is going to win the award. The only real race at this point is which player will have the honor to finish second.

The Heisman will be awarded on Dec. 14.
