Why Texas Tech can cover

The Red Raiders' offense is already clicking on all cylinders, as evidenced by the 539 yards they produced in the team's narrow victory over FCS Abilene Christian. Quarterback Behren Morton completed 30 of 42 passes for 378 yards and five scores in the win. Morton's top receivers excelled, including Josh Kelly (10-156-1) and Coy Eakin (5-76-2), who feasted on the Wildcats' defense.

Senior running back Tahj Brooks had a monster 2023 season, gaining 1,443 yards on the ground with nine scores, and opened his 2024 campaign with another great effort. Brooks rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries to give the Red Raiders a well-balanced attack. Texas Tech should have no issue scoring plenty of points this season, but will their defense improve after allowing Abilene Christian to gain more than 600 yards last week? See which team to pick here.

Why Washington State can cover

The Cougars put on an offensive display against FCS Portland State and should be able to have success against a Red Raiders defense which struggled mightily last week. Cougars quarterback John Mateer was 11 of 17 passing for 352 yards and five scores against the Vikings. He also added two rushes for 55 yards, including a 40 yard touchdown en route to the team scoring 49 points in the first half.

Receivers Kyle Williams (4-141-2) and Kris Hutson (4-101-1) lit up the Portland State secondary, while running back Wayshawn Parker rushed eight times for 96 yards and a touchdown. If the Cougars had not taken their foot off the pedal, they might have been able to score close to 100 points as their offense was working so effectively. In total, they gained 637 yards last week and are likely excited to face a defense that gave up more than 500 yards passing in Week 1. See which team to pick here.
