Cade Johnson: Misses out on roster spot
Johnson was waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.
Johnson led all Seahawks wide receivers in receptions (nine) and yards (72). However, the Seahawks' are willing to risk losing the undrafted rookie on waivers despite keeping just four wideouts on their initial 53-man roster. Johnson caught three of seven targets for 34 yards in Saturday's 30-3 preseason loss to the Broncos.
Johnson now has 12 targets through the first two preseason games, and he has recorded seven receptions for 59 yards (4.9 YPT). Johnson (groin) brought in four of five targets for 25 yards in the Seahawks' 20-7 preseason loss to the Raiders on Saturday night.
The undrafted rookie from South Dakota State paced the Seahawks in receptions and targets on the night in a solid showing. Johnson is clearly past the groin injury that troubled him back in OTAs, and he could be a promising practice-squad candidate or even potential No. 6 receiver if he continues to impress during the final pair of exhibitions.... Johnson has missed the last two practices due to a groin injury, but coach Pete Carroll expects Johnson to return next week, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson can ill afford to miss extended time to injury considering he'll need to leapfrog a number of players on Seattle's wide receiver depth chart to have any chance at a roster spot.
