  • Xavier Thomas: Joins Houston's practice squad

The Texans signed Thomas to their practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Thomas was waived by the Cardinals on Friday, and he has already found another opportunity with a new team. Over four games with Arizona in 2025, Thomas has logged 15 snaps on defense and 42 on special teams.

  • Xavier Thomas: Cut by Arizona

The Cardinals waived Thomas on Friday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Thomas played in four games this season, never for more than 13 percent of the Cardinals' defensive snaps. The cut most likely comes due to the return to practice of Baron Browning and the presence of BJ Ojulari on the roster. If Thomas can clear waivers, there is a good chance he will end up back with the Cardinals on the practice squad.

  • Cardinals' Xavier Thomas: Disrupts backfield in win

Thomas finished with three tackles (two solo), including 1.5 sacks and a tackle for a loss, in Sunday's 29-9 win over the Bears.

The linebacker also played on 35.0 percent of the defensive snaps as he continues to share time with Julian Okwara as Arizona's third linebacker. Thomas and Okwara were the next men up after Dennis Gardeck suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the Cardinals' Week 7 win over the Chargers.

  • Cardinals' Xavier Thomas: Healthy scratch again

Thomas (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers.

Thomas is a fifth-round pick out of Clemson and earned a role right away as a rookie, recording two tackles in 65 snaps (51 defensive) across the first three weeks of his rookie season. However, he's fallen out of favor since then, recording back-to-back healthy scratches.

  • Cardinals' Xavier Thomas: Headed to desert

The Cardinals selected Thomas in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 138th overall.

Thomas was a top recruit and ultimately landed with Clemson, where he impressively found the field regularly as a freshman. However, he had sporadic production from there due to injury and a serious bout with COVID-19, which explains his dip into the later rounds of the draft. Thomas will head into the pros with a wide range of outcomes, but he could become part of the Cardinals' rotation along the defensive line behind the likes of Zaven Collins and BJ Ojulari.
