Colts' Jaylon Carlies: Won't return Sunday
Carlies (ankle) won't play in Indianapolis' matchup versus the Texans on Sunday.
Carlies hasn't played all season and will remain on injured reserve for at least one more week. The 24-year-old will now look to make his debut during the team's Week 14 matchup versus Jacksonville.

Colts' Jaylon Carlies: Remaining on IR
Head coach Shane Steichen told reporters Friday that Carlies (ankle) will not be activated from the injured reserve list ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
The second-year pro from Missouri practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday but is still not ready for in-game action. Carlies has yet to play this season after posting 36 total tackles across 10 games in 2024. Once fully healthy, he's expected to operate as one of the Colts' top linebackers.

Colts' Jaylon Carlies: Practice window opens
Carlies (ankle) was designated to return from the injured reserve list Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
The second-year pro from Missouri has missed all 10 of Indianapolis' games this season due to an ankle injury sustained in the team's preseason opener. However, he now appears to be nearing a return after attending practice Wednesday. Carlies now has 21 days to be added to the Colts' active roster before reverting to IR. Once he's fully healthy, he'll likely operate as one of Indianapolis' top reserve linebackers.

Colts' Jaylon Carlies: Starting season on IR
The Colts placed Carlies (ankle) on injured reserve with a designation to return Tuesday, Amanda Foster of the team's official site reports.
Carlies picked up an ankle injury during the Colts' preseason opener against the Ravens, which caused him to miss the team's next two exhibition contests. By being placed on IR, The 2024 fifth-rounder will be forced to miss at least four games, making Week 5 against the Raiders on Sunday, Oct. 5 the earliest he can make his 2025 regular-season debut. Carlies finished his rookie campaign with 36 tackles (24 solo), including 1.0 sacks, and one pass defense across 10 regular-season games.

Carlies suffered an ankle injury in the Colts' preseason opener against the Ravens and there isn't yet a timetable for his return. Carlies (shoulder) is the favorite to start at linebacker opposite Zaire Franklin heading into training camp, the Indianapolis Star reports. "We think (Carlies) can really ascend," GM Chris Ballard said recently.
Carlies moved from safety to linebacker last season and started six games. He recorded 36 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and one pass defended over 231 defensive snaps in 10 games. He underwent shoulder surgery in the offseason and missed spring practices, but he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Carlies finished with 36 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, along with one defensed pass across 10 contests during the regular season in 2024.
After being drafted in the fifth round of last April's NFL Draft, Carlies worked largely in a rotational role, though he did make six starts. He played more than half of Indianapolis' defensive snaps just once, recording 10 tackles Week 16 against Tennessee. Carlies also endured a stint on IR due to a lower-leg injury but returned in time to play in the Colts' final three contests of the campaign. He'll be in the second year of his rookie contract in 2025.

Colts' Jaylon Carlies: Double-digit tackles Sunday
Carlies recorded 10 total tackles (six solo), including one tackle for loss, in Sunday's 38-30 win over the Titans.
Carlies, a 2024 fourth-round pick from Missouri, made the first start of his young career in Week 16 in place of the injured E.J. Speed (knee). He played 98 percent of the Colts' defensive snaps and recorded a team-high 10 total tackles. Speed could return to the field as soon as Indianapolis' Week 17 matchup against the Giants; however, he's set to hit free agency at the end of the season. Sunday's divisional matchup may have served as a tryout for Carlies, and he impressed throughout the contest.

Colts' Jaylon Carlies: Comes off IR, set to play Sunday
The Colts activated Carlies (lower leg/shoulder) off injured reserve Saturday and removed his injury designation for Sunday's matchup versus Tennessee.
Carlies has missed Indianapolis' past seven contests while recovering from a lower-leg injury he suffered Week 7 against Miami. He was designated to return from IR on Dec. 11 and, after remaining on injured reserve for last Sunday's loss to Broncos, was able to log a trio of full practices this week. Carlies will likely maintain the same rotational role on defense he held prior to getting hurt, and he had also been contributing on special teams.
