Perez rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A Rochester and elected free agency Friday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Perez was removed from Washington's 40-man roster Thursday and will now enter the open market. The 25-year-old appeared in 10 games for the Nationals last season and surrendered seven earned runs over 8.2 frames.
