Cleveland designated Rivera for assignment Saturday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

The 37-year-old loses his spot on the 40-man roster as Roberto Perez (finger) is activated from the 60-day injured list. Offensively, Rivera has outperformed fellow catcher Austin Hedges, but a .236 average is still unremarkable and not enough to keep him around as Perez's backup.
