The Diamondbacks released Mella on July 28.
Just over a month after removing Mella from the 40-man roster, the Diamondbacks elected to part ways with the 28-year-old right-hander entirely in order to prioritize other pitchers at Triple-A Reno. Over his 29 innings at Triple-A this season, Mella posted a 4.34 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. He'll look to secure a minor-league deal with another organization.
