Mets' Gosuke Katoh: Designated for assignment

Katoh was designated for assignment Friday, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

He went 1-for-7 in a brief eight-game run in the majors earlier this year with the Blue Jays. Katoh will likely pass through waivers unclaimed and continue providing infield depth in the upper levels of the Mets' farm system.
