Plummer elected minor-league free agency Monday after the Cardinals opted not to add him to the 40-man roster, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Not adding Plummer to the 40-man was a bit of a puzzling move by the Cardinals just based on talent, but obviously outfield depth is not something they are lacking. Plummer, who turned 25 in July, hit .280/.415/.479 with 15 home runs and 13 steals in 117 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He will likely have plenty of suitors and will probably prioritize joining an organization without much outfield depth in the upper levels.
