The Mets released Tarpley on Friday.
The lefty had been designated for assignment Sunday and will become a free agent instead of joining Triple-A Syracuse. While Tarpley may appeal to an organization in need of pitching depth, he hasn't turned in a competent MLB season since 2018 and will need to prove he can still pitch at the highest level.
